MacArthur High School

I had only a brief discussion with them but came away impressed. The VP said that the renovations right now are just sprucing up to get the school ready for this year. He stated that DCPS will be spending $85M over the next two years to do a true gut renovation and will construct new buildings/expand existing footprints. He said it’s going to a big construction job.

I wonder if anyone heard anything else? Sounds like they will be touring all the feeder schools in the next week or two.

Did they discuss the transportation issue? For me, that's the biggest issue.

The principal visited our feeder recently. I’m bummed I missed it but my 8yo told me all about it. Sounds like his charisma also appeals to the younger crowd!

Interesting how the narrative has changed on him. Glad parents are starting to accept that he may be able to lead a school with “advanced kids”.

I think you are referencing the Assistant Principal. He was energetic the entire time.

This sounds promising but suggests a VERY noisy first few years....ugh.

Some of that is tied up with the WMATA bus plan. but the plan does involve a new route that snakes through ward 3; route 201 - however it does not cover Eaton territory. but between the d6 and the new route, covers most students.

The other part of the puzzle is what happens with reservoir rd and/or the trolley trail. Potentially bike lanes on reservoir are going to be tied up with the GT transport plan and I can't figure out what is going on with the Trolley Trail.

I would be interested in people’s experiences so far with MacArthur High School. What do you like or dislike? We may be moving in bound and wanted to gather impressions given it’s so new and there isn’t much info available yet that I can find. Thanks

Visit the school! What you hear on here is mostly fictitious and made by people who don't have kids that attend MacArthur. If you are basing your decision on these posts you will be misinformed.

The bus system overhaul - which starts in June I believe - has a new bus running to and from Foggy Bottom metro. The original proposal had the same bus running up to Tenleytown, but the Glover Park NIMBYs killed that.

Haha, I like that you won't give up on incorrectly and stupidly trashing Glover Park at any opportunity.

What are you talking about? The new bus route (C85) goes through the heart of Glover Park. I guess the Glover Park NIMBYs didn't try hard enough?

Still, that bus takes the most meandering route possible before it gets to Foxhall and MacArthur. It'll take forever in rush-hour traffic.

what are you talking about? glover park fought for that route (literally read the minutes of the ANC meeting). they also wanted another route that was direct to dupont and more frequent.

Is the Sibley Hospital D6 bus route being replaced? Will some other bus go up and down MacArthur Blvd now?
