He’s probably doing whatever for a year whilst applying to grad school or law school or med school.
Or maybe career services is really terrible. Or white males need not apply. Think of it as equitable and equality. |
Exactly. Now there’s more consulting and banking and investing jobs for my kid. Gracias ski bum |
The Dean of Harvard is a hippy destroying the college entirely. Donations will continue dry up as they churn out activist hippies. |
No kidding. Can’t take money anywhere since you never applied yourself in an actual career either. |
Must be applied math and a BA degree not BS degree. |
“Ivy League stem degrees” don’t even have labs, nor compare in level of difficulty or skills learned to a earn a math or engineering BS degree from Georgia tech, Carnegie Mellon, MIT, a service academy, CalTech, or top flagship state schools. And certainly can’t hold a candle to math at IIt, Oxbridge, Todai, ecole systems. Ask anyone that hires or wants the trainability of a true mathematician what they think of the coursework and driven of HYP math major. |
Career services won’t fast track someone who took time off after senior year. Theses schools are admitted teens due to leadership potential. Most dovetail to great learning platform jobs w tons of exit opps down the road or elite grad school programs right away. |
Interesting point. Op- find out if the kid secured a job offer and is deferring 12 months. That is common in banking and consulting during a downturn. They hire 6-12 mos before the summer training program begins and instead of rescinding offers they offer deferrals. |
Fulbrights are a dime a dozen. |
Okay. I posted earlier about taking a nonprofit job after graduating from an Ivy. I think of myself as doing quite well "even though" I have a nonprofit job. I also consider myself pretty ambitious. I would never have wanted an IB career. |
A gap year before grad school and after HYP is very common. My best friend went to law school, was a federal clerk, then biglaw. She worked for a couple years teaching English overseas before law school. |
You have no idea. I'm a fed sitting on approx. 10MM that my grandma gifted to me. I live in the suburbs and drive a Sienna. |
There is a lot of this at HYP schools… My godfather and his family have gifted millions to his alma mater but he drives a beat up car |
No one is entitled to anything. And credentialism isn’t the way to go. |
I had a total crap job after HYP and taught myself a bunch of stuff during that time. I thought I would be a banker but ended up in a totally different career.
In retrospect it was the best thing that happened to me. You see…I was possibly Lehman Brothers’ last job offer! By the time I would have started, the whole place ceased to exist. I work in a niche of tech and startups now that didn’t even exist when I was in college. |
