New Responsive Design for DCUM

In the old set-up, scrolling to the left revealed a forum menu, with a search and recent topics button.

In the new set up, that is not an option anymore. It is easy to to to forum index, but then finding recent topics is a hassle.

Can you consider either pinning "Recent" to the top of the forum index, or pinning it somewhere easily seen on each individual thread by default? Often, a thread may turn out to be unhelpful or too contentious for dumb reasons several pages into the topic.
Once that occurs, my natural inclination is to return to Recent Topics. Now that action takes multiple clicks or backpage swipes, which is especially not ideal in areas with spotty Internet coverage.

With appreciation,
DCUM user

Click the "hamburger" icon in the upper left corner.

If I make the text size on my phone very small it’s easier to read recent topics, but the font size on threads doesn’t seem to change.

I've reduced the primary font size in the desktop version by 2 px to see if that works better. It was already this size in the iPad version.

I have also redone the Recent Topics and Hottest Topics pages.

I just saw this on my iPhone, using safari. Love it! Default font size is good. Menus and topics list a good balance of info. Only feedback now that I’m replying is to maybe put all the emoticons under a link. It’s taking up 20% of screen when vertical. Had to scroll to find text box. Plus, I can use the emoticons on my phone.

Thank you for this update! ❤️

I always kept my zoom on my browser at standard settings, which was fine for me. I appreciate the attempt to make it friendlier for some devices, but that’s why I could zoom out on a phone if I needed to.

Please post a screen shot if you can so I know what you are seeing. I have tested on an iPhone 14, and iPad Pro, an iPad Mini, and a normal iPad and didn't see any real issues (I thought it was better in most cases). So, I would like to see if things look different on your device.

Sorry, I was away for a bit. The image that was posted at 10:36 is what I’m seeing. I switched it back to legacy and it works for me. I like to be able to skim many titles to find what I’m interested in - just seeing 8 in a large font is frustrating. That being said, I just looked the site up on my iPhone, and it looks good there, but it looks very similar to when I zoom out for DCUM on my phone. I think zooming out when necessary is easier, because on an iPad, I can’t pinch to zoom to make the new site any smaller.

I changed my phone browser zoom to 85% and it’s better.

Are you talking about the Recent Topics page? If so, take another look because I have updated that. I can see 16 topics on my iPad.

Two questions:

1) How important is the author and date of the last post in the Recent Topics list? I had planned to include that but left it out by accident in the last update. I may leave it out. *

2) For those of you complaining about fonts, can you post links for sites that you think have the fonts sized correctly? I'll see what they are doing.

* update to clarify that I meant the phone view.

Author is not important for most forums.

Date is not important at all.

When I really care about a thread I check the number of replies.

You need some padding in the content on the left-most column on a thread. And the padding on the columns on the list of "recent topics" is also terrible and garbled. And the "report" button looking distinct before was better.

The individual pages are okay, the list is far, far worse. Do you use a web designer? Are you a web designer?

I don’t like the new look, sorry. I’m on an iPad and it feels weird and disjointed. Hard to read. The stark white background is awful. Can you go back to the old style?

Which type of device are you using? The padding is different depending on screen size. I can change the report button.

No, I am not using a web designer and I am an extremely amateur web designer.
