I agree with this comment. My kid graduated from TJ last year with high stats but is attending an out of state university (with very high costs) because of rejection at UVA and wait list at VT. Many TJ kids go out of state for college.

UVA and William and Mary are safeties for most TJ students except for the bottom 30%.

But most Asian students are busy with tutors themselves - for each and every class, then college prep, so they have little time to help others, unfortunately.

Many Asian TJ students tutor URM students through out the county.

BS, this isn’t the early 2000s. Looking at the “TJ Today” annual matriculation lists, it’s easy to see how the admissions numbers to UVA and VT have dropped over the past five years. W&M, I dunno.

Sure, I'm the one who posted it FYI...me and my husband both attended a T10 school that practices legacy. Both of our kids applied and got into our alma mater. Don't get me wrong, they had good stats (~3.8-3.9's from Sidwell and >1500 SAT's), but legacy probably helped them get in. Several of our kids friends who went to top schools had parents who went there. Although, Sidwell has a lot more humanities focused kids, and as a result, they consider a different set of schools that TJ kids consider. For example, Georgia Tech, a very very good school for Computer Science, has little to no interest at Sidwell. At TJ, GT may be viewed more prestigiously than Georgetown, but its the exact opposite at Sidwell.

One more thing, with the exception of UVA, there aren't too many families at Sidwell who are looking to go to a public school. They mainly want to go to private schools. So this is another reason why the results are different. So basically, if we're looking at national prestige, Sidwell is better, if we're looking at prestige for CS, TJ is better. But at the end of the day, kids from both schools who work hard WILL be successful

TJ definitely has better top 25 acceptances even with legacies and anti-asian discrimination in college admissions.

My DD loves TJ and so far, we are happy with the admission results.
She applied to VT, UVA, UMD, UMich, Purdue, UIUC and Georgia tech. Got accepted in all.
Definitely TJ was brutal in 10th n 11th grades, but senior year she is really having fun. We got our happy child back

Please share your DD stats. I have a junior DD at TJ right now. Really worried due to weighted GPA of 4.1, despite high SAT.

TJ Today doesn't tell you admission numbers, it is matriculation numbers.

TBH, GPA 4.1 at TJ would be up hill battle for UVA, UMich or GaTech!

Yep. DS was mid 4.3s when he applied to all 3 last year. In at UVA, deferred->rejected at UMich, R at GT. It's not easy.

With our DD’s experience, we can say personal statement is the key. Her gpa was 4.25 and 1560 SAT….got into UMD, UMich, UVA and GTech
