Tons of Jews in North Carolina

I'm sure this is true somewhere, it's a big state, but it's hilarious to me. I lived there my whole life until college and met three.

I lived there my whole life even through college and met none until I moved away.

When I was at UNC, there were active Hillel organizations at UNC, Duke and NC State. I assume there still are.

Also, there was a very old Orthodox community in Durham --- including some descendants of Jews who came over from Russia to roll cigars in the 1800s (at least that's what one of their descendants, who was born and raised in Durham) told me. He was an older guy and laughed that people said he spoke southern English with a Yiddish accent and Yiddish with a southern accent. This was in the 1980s.

From Dataverse, top feeders to PhD programs include Florida, UT Austin, UNC Chapel Hill, Texas A&M.

On a per capita basis, no way

Fewer, FEWER!

Reminds me of the old joke about Hofstra University co-eds.

It’s not surprising that someone who is 18 wants to spend $60k a year on a school where you’re allowed to attend parties, don’t have to take frequent nasal swabs, and aren’t required to take repeated boosters for covid. Not to mention better weather, fun sporting events and prettier women.

All schools have moved on from COVID. The South isn't special, outside of the insidious objectification of women, which is a different kind of special.

Au contraire. Mandates are still going strong at Northeast schools. Hundreds require a booster if the student hasn't had one yet and several even require the new booster for kids who already had the old one. Some families have HAD IT with the total lack of ethics, whether they say so publicly or not.

(Let's see if this post gets censored; it is common for DCUM to remove replies like mine.)

THIS. The reason we're focusing on schools in the south is mainly because of the mandates. We know one too many families who have been affected by vx injuries. It makes no sense to mandate at this point.

I’m sorry but this is such a stupid reason for not picking a college. Mask mandates and virtual learning requirements I get, but vaccine mandates alone? Ridiculous.

Just one more reason why my kid will not look at any Southern schools. Anti vax - no thank you.

because it's easier. Generally, good looking people rely on their looks a lot more than their brains. Not so good looking people have to rely on their smarts more.

Southern schools have hotter and fatter kids at the same time

Nescacs have less IG models but also less zaftig.

In fact I don’t think you are allowed to attend a nescac if your bmi is high

Are the females hotter or do they waste more time on their hair and make up?

that's what I'm saying.. they spend more time on looks and partying than studying.

Again, some of us who are not anti-vax are looking at the south because some schools in the north do not give out medical exemptions even where cardiologists are recommending it. Stop being such a rigid thinker. Do you think I am happy about what my kid went through?

Pretty dumb to dismiss a school on that basis. If you want to be vaxxed, even though the school doesn’t require it, go do that, nothing is stopping you.

Which college didn’t allow a medical exemption?

PP isn’t dismissing the school. PP is dismissing the anti-vax crazies.

When I hear people use “woke” this way, they sound brainwashed to me.

And stupid.

Brainwashed and stupid people think those who resist brainwashing are brainwashed, stupid.

Wow. You’re really good at parroting what other people say.

Keep talking about “woke”. It’s funny.

60%--or a bit more--of the students at the University of Alabama are non-residents.

Sounds like a no-brainer!

This is white flight on a national level. Just admit it. No need to use the word 'traditional" when we all know you mean white.

I don’t think that’s a good analogy. The white kids are more like a poor community being priced out of a gentrifying neighborhood.

White kids literally can’t get into the northern schools any more. And the position of the Asian American community on here seems to be that that is right and good, that higher stats Asian American students have a constitutional right to those seats.

So it’s more than a little rich to cry “racism” when the exact same kids you worked so hard to keep out of elite northern schools go to school somewhere else. What did you expect them to do?

I think this is a bit off. Most southern schools have added diversity inn decent numbers. Also its not poor whites going but rich kids. Abortion is not playing a role as those kids could just come home or go somewhere else. Numbers so far this year show increase in applications to those states.

Pp isn’t saying the white kids in question are poor but rather gentile whites of average/above average academics are being “gentrified out” of their home state institutions by those with more “education capital” (Asians) —

Analogous to how poor people get gentrified out of their home neighborhoods due to lack of competing financial capital

Whites to Asians in academics is like blacks to whites in neighborhood gentrification

No...whites didn't flee because the blacks gentrified their neighborhood. They fled because they didn't want to be around blacks. Your analogy is not logical.

This appears to be true.....

TCU 2008 in-state 79% vs 2021 in-state 54%
TCU 2008 Asians 2% vs 2021 Asians 3%

SMU 65% vs 45% in-state
SMU 6% vs 7% Asians

% overall OOS going up, but Asians not changing much at all.
