I agree with them asking you to bring beverages, but I don't see what the big deal is if she's specifically asking what would be better for her and the baby. It's a new time, get over yourselves! You still have to bring something so why all the whining. I think the only reason you don't like the idea is because you think that she'll spend it on something else...that's not a real friend. Just don't attend.
