California I get but Texas and the South?
I'd seriously be depressed if my kid decided to move to the South. We lived in Atlanta for 5 years in what is probably the least racist area - right near Emory and CDC. Guess what? It's still pretty racist and while there are overwhelming numbers of educated and progressive people, there are still a ton of really backward, toothless Trumpanzees. OP - does your son realize that while colleges have a lot of transplants that might be more progressive, the surrounding areas are pretty scary? |
This!!!!! |
Of course the fact that your kid has about a .05% chance to get into any of these has absolutely no impact on your sanctimonious statement. You'd give anything for your kid to get into any of these schools, and plenty of others in the south. You're fooling no one. |
| Don’t 4get Vandy in Tennessee! Goop’s daughter is attending. |
Of course they will. Drive to another state. |
It’s already happened in Austin. |
If you aren’t stuck in an ER |
Austin is bankrupt? I have heard rumors of Transplants trying to leave again |
+1. Same. 8 hour drive or 1.5 hr direct flight from home and I went home for thanksgiving, Christmas break, spring break, and of course summer. however, admittedly flying and driving/gas prices were both much cheaper back then—early 2000s. I could usually fly home round trip for under $100 which wouldn’t be possible anymore. I usually drove anyway to have more flexibility on when I left/returned and so I’d have a car at home once I got there. |
Um…lots of major cities in the south—Atlanta included—are predominantly black and reliably (in the city itself anyway) vote democratic. Of course racism is everywhere (not just the south by any means) but I don’t think it makes sense to call a place like the city of Atlanta that’s majority black and has a black mayor and many black elected officials racist. |
There *can* be hot days in Texas in the fall, but this is silly. The average high in Dallas in October is 80. It is the first week of September, and the forecast is for Dallas to be in the high 80’s this week. They *might* barely pass 90 one day. Other than Houston, it’s much drier than DC, so the heat isn’t as miserable. |
We can only hope. |
Don't forget UC-San Diego which is in a beautiful location as well! |
There are over 20 stars where abortion is effectively banned or soon to be. There are excellent college choices in states that have some respect for women and protect their rights by law. |

If your DC never lived in those warm weather locations, it may not be what they expected. I grew up in a tropical city and hated it, too hot and humid with pollution and those insects and bugs(huge roaches in Hawaii).
I prefer cooler locations. |
