I just want school board members who do actual work, rather than find ways to push political agendas. Too many people who are in leadership positions manage to get away with doing almost nothing by pushing the outrage button - not enough equity, CRT is brainwashing, the kids are reading books with sex scenes, such and such policy is racist, let’s come up with a new sex education curriculum.
As a teacher, I just want to teach my kids to read, reason, and write. Give me the supplies, space, and time to do this, please. It’s really very simple, but as long as administrators and board members are narcissists promoting themselves and their ideology du jour, it never will be. |
Prime example is the ridiculous Lewis Academy program. Money that could be spent teaching kids to read and write English is getting spent on a vanity project no one wanted except Karen Keys Gamarra and a half-dozen of her friends. Disgusting. |
| Unfortunately, it’s a hard job to sell to the average person. They work all the time (well, not the ones who never bother to attend like keys gamarra), are paid 32,000 and get unlimited hate and attacks by right wing extremists egged on by politicians like Youngkin who have decided to use public education as a wedge to divide communities for their own personal political gain. |
They are criticized because they are incompetent and hypocritical. If the system weren’t rigged, at least three who were the subject of recall petitions already would have been replaced. |
OMG! Nothing. I am a normal person. Why do you think that parents should put their kids on display just bc they have autism? If the kid can sing, then that’s why they are singing. And if the kid can’t, then they don’t need to be. What is wrong with you that you need someone to tell you that? |
No, it’s not ok to normalize POS republicans laughing at SN kids. Can’t believe that has to be said - multiple times. Just admit that you’re wrong. Laughing at SN kids is not the hill you want to die on. |
DP, but if the only ammunition the Democrats have going into the fall 2023 SB elections is that two Republicans who won’t even end up running for SB grimaced at a screechy performance of the National Anthem by a young adult they didn’t know was autistic they are going to end up booted out of office. We all get it. It was poor form and the two would-be challengers paid the price. Jackson had so much baggage from the endless fights over TJ that he never would have been a viable candidate anyway - most people in the county are sick of all the attention that TJ has been getting at the expense of all the other schools in FCPS. But if you think this one mishap will dominate the discussion next fall, you are probably in for a surprise. The current members who choose to run again are still going to have to defend their record, and it hasn’t exactly been a good one. |
I'm curious to see who end up being the challengers. I won't predict anything until I see who they are. |
