Every time this debate surfaces, I think it is kind of like people saying that fantasy lit or movies or whatever is “fake” and therefore bad. It’s a different genre of travel. Yes, it is fake—that is the point. Lord of the rings depicts a fake universe, as does Star Wars and Game of Thrones. I understand some people prefer non-fiction or realistic fiction to fantasy, but they are all valid genres and some people enjoy more than one.
For those who think it’s trashy to enjoy disney as an adult, do you think the same of people who enjoy Renn Fest or Comicon? I think it’s the same impulse — to escape reality and pretend to be part of something different. |
| It is fun to go to Disney + Universal at least once OP. But, if you need anonymous people to tell you that, it probably is not for you. |
Right. No one thinks it’s real. That’s not the point. |
Went once. Totally agree. It is gross |

My boys are 10 and 13. I went to Disney twice as a kid with my family and once when I was 17. While I enjoyed Disney as a kid I have zero desire to go as an adult so we never took our kids. I have zero regrets. We have taken lot of amazing vacation so my kids aren't missing out on much.
I do think they would enjoyed the Star Wars stuff, but neither kid is into Harry Potter, not shocking as my husband and I are also not HP fans, so not missing much there. |
Harry Potter isn’t at Disney World. |
I know that, I just group all of the Orlando area parks into one. No desire to go to any of them or Florida in general. |
| We didn't take our kids, and I have never regretted it. And I regret almost everything I have done and not done, so that is saying something. |
How very superior you are. |
Not superior, Florida and the theme parks there just aren't my thing. |
And you need to let us all know. We get it. |
Wow! It's amazing how your joy is impacted by people having absolutely nothing to do with you or your family. What a joy you must be! |
The thread is about regret over not going. I think it's fair to say you're not into any of it. I'm not, and frankly I'd rather give my money to other states these days. Florida, no thanks. |
I think it’s worth pointing out that Disney and DeSantis are not exactly friends. |
