Will I regret never going to Disney?

Anonymous
I will say as a former Disney employee, temper your expectations. Yes, it's crazy hot in Florida in the summer. And yes, it absolutely pours for about 20 minutes somewhere in the 4 o clock hour. No, we can't do anything about it. Yes, the line rides are long. Yes, the merch is expensive. People used to complain about this stuff to me like me, at the time making $7.25 an hour, had any control over any of this.

While I enjoyed Disney as a kid I have zero desire to go as an adult so we never took our kids. I have zero regrets. We have taken lot of amazing vacation so my kids aren't missing out on much.

I do think they would enjoyed the Star Wars stuff, but neither kid is into Harry Potter, not shocking as my husband and I are also not HP fans, so not missing much there.

Harry Potter isn’t at Disney World.

I know that, I just group all of the Orlando area parks into one. No desire to go to any of them or Florida in general.

How very superior you are.

Not superior, Florida and the theme parks there just aren't my thing.

And you need to let us all know. We get it.

The question OP asked was will they regret not going. I shared my experience that we have never once regretted not going. Sorry if that offends your Disney loving self.

Never said anything about my feelings about Disney. I’m not the one who felt the need to go overboard to make sure everyone knows that I will never set foot in ANY Florida theme park or ANYTHING in Florida.

Yes, it is fake—that is the point. Lord of the rings depicts a fake universe, as does Star Wars and Game of Thrones. I understand some people prefer non-fiction or realistic fiction to fantasy, but they are all valid genres and some people enjoy more than one.

For those who think it’s trashy to enjoy disney as an adult, do you think the same of people who enjoy Renn Fest or Comicon? I think it’s the same impulse — to escape reality and pretend to be part of something different.

EXACTLY!

Years ago I started a thread on this forum about the top 10 Amrerican travel experiences for a well rounded kid. I did put disney on it. I also put—
NYC
DC
Two more of the architecturally and culturally significant cities (LA, SF, Chi, Nolla. P0hilly, Boston)
One of the big western canyons (grand, Bryce, etc)
Yosemite, denali, Tetons or RMNP (a big American mountain trance)
A US tropicalisland (Hawaii, PR, USVI, Florida Keyes)
Western feel city or town (Tucson, San Antonio, Taos, Santa Fe, Cody, etc.)
That’s only 9 so I can’t remember the 10th….maybe a beach town?

Point being is that I think disney is part of the essential American experience but so are lots of other things and it’s NBD if you can’t do all of them, either because of time, money, health or just because you really wouldn’t enjoy it!

Hell no! I’d regret going.

Watch some extended length youtube vlogs, like 30-45 minutes, when making the decision. There's several channels that do silent 'walking tour' videos that show the crowds, 1st person perspective of the rides, etc. I personally found Disney very underwhelming.

Um, yes. I actually do judge people who like these things in excess as well. And NASCAR fans.

If you can easily afford it, go. Why not?

If it’s a stretch and you’d have to save for years, then I’d rethink. It’s not a “bucket list” trip for me but I think it’s worth the money.

You realize the people who go to Comicon, Renn Fest, and NASCAR fans are not at all the same, right?

Of course they are different. It is possible to judge more than one kind of person. Come on, Disney lovers are supposed to have good imaginations!

I never said a thing about Disney. You are very judgmental. I’m glad I don’t know you in person.

Most people are judgmental, far more than me. My best friend works at Walmart, and I also have friends who are famous. I am very low key. Several of my friends go to Disney often. I’d never say anything about it to then IRL. They enjoy it, good for them.

I thibk let people like the things they like (absent harm to another person). I'm not a Disney adult myself but some of my coworkers were (literally worked there so they could go a bunch) and they were all perfectly nice people.

Your excuse is that most people are judgmental?
