MCPS Covid Data Updated Daily (in a single thread)

Anonymous
Do you even bother to read the articles before you post them, much less the actual underlying studies?

No one is claiming people can’t get reinfected with covid after vaccination or a prior infection. But the immunity gained from vaccination and prior infection protects against severe illness, a point brought up in your second article and confirmed by studies.

Cardiovascular effects from infections are not unique to covid. We see them after other infections, such as the flu, which was discussed in your first article. The effects are typically mild, and go unnoticed or diagnosed.

That’s not to say there are risks from covid. There are. But they aren’t that different from risks we’ve long faced. And there’s no realistic path for avoiding them long-term.

Anyone can pull random articles to prove their point but just because it is not being done elsewhere does not make it best practice. Grow up.

+1000. Many of us who work are back in the office, traveling for work, having happy hours with coworkers and clients etc. our kids are playing sports and being kids. We’ve just filed covid away as another (small) risk we choose to undertake everyday in exchange for living a normal full joyful life. DCUM is not real life.

Except the risks you take impact all of us. But, clearly you don’t care.

You are correct. I do not care. It’s not up to me to keep you safe from an invisible ubiquitous virus that apparently I could have and not know about. That’s very entitled by the way. I don’t know anyone who actually is such a narcissist in real life. But even if I cared deeply about you, I can’t protect you from covid. It will find you eventually regardless of whether I suck the joy out of my life in solidarity or not.

Its not anxious if you actually have real health issues and understand what long term health issues really ar.

Its too bad you are the one spreading this and so self absurd that you stopped caring. Worse is you are raising the next generation just like you and then will complain how selfish they are without realizing you are the reason why.
I have to agree with this. The majority of the country is going about their daily life, quite normally. Yet there is this subset of overly anxious people who clearly can’t run and efficient risk benefit analysis, and insist we stay home to keep them safe. Yet they think we are the selfish ones. It’s bizarre.

Last time I looked at mcps numbers, they continued to be on the rise and no I am not overly anxious but I don’t want to get Covid from you. So, yes, you are selfish.

What are you looking for? People aren’t going to keep covid measures up forever. Nor is covid going to be eradicated. So what's your plan? Are you going to keep isolating yourself and your kids? Or are you going to take steps to protect yourself so you can interact with others?

The discussion is about Covid in MCPS. Honestly I have no interest in interacting with others as I don't want covid. Its not about it being eradicated but since people refuse to use common sense and stay home when sick, we are now seeing outbreaks in MCPS schools and that's an issue.

There are always going to be cases in MCPS. Vaccines and infection don’t confer lasting immunity against subsequent infections.

Yes, but a lot more can be done to keep them OUT of MCPS.

Play that out.

Set aside the cost and lack of human resources. Suppose MCPS could frequent PCR and/or antibody testing and extended isolation and quarantine periods. You’re still not going to completely keep covid out, but to the extent you can keep that up, you’ll be able to keep some of those cases out of school. Now, we don’t know whether that would actually have an impact on the number of cases in MCPS students, since most of the cases are almost certainly picked up off-campus. But let's ignore that.

Then what? You're not going to keep that up forever. At some point you'd have to stop it, and covid is still going to be around. We already have vaccines and therapies are highly effective at preventing serious illness, so this is about as good as it's going to get.

So, why not give it a try. Mitigation has been proven to help. Let me guess. You don't want testing as you know at some point your kids will bring it in and you cannot be bothered keeping them at home.

Then what?

Let's go a step farther. Not that it is even remotely realistic, but let's say the whole DC region went into a hard lockdown where no one left their house for any reason for a month (obviously setting aside the need for food, medical and emergency services). And let's say that happened to be enough to eliminate COVID in this region.

There's still COVID in other parts of the country and world. So, unless we dome ourselves off and stop anyone from entering/leaving, COVID is going to come right back. And a few weeks after that we'd be right back where we started.

And, of course, even this wouldn't work. Shanghai is in its seventh week of true (chain the front doors, steal your babies, kill your pets) lockdown, and they still haven't cracked it. And the minute they open back up at all, it's going to flare. People should continue wearing their K95's if they want, but that's as far as it goes any more.

So, give up and do nothing. Enjoy Covid.

She previously admitted she doesn’t like interacting with others (except on dcum, apparently), so she’s probably trying to perpetuate fear of covid in an attempt to continue her reclusive lifestyle.

This is how you seriously mess up your kids, folks.

You're very simple-minded to only see things through the lens of Covid. There is a baby formula shortage because a contaminant was found in Abbott's product. They stopped manufacturing and are waiting approval to re-start. It's going to rain again this weekend. Is that because I didn't wear a mask last week? Please regale me with your simple-minded analysis.

There was contamination at the Abbott factory (a huge producer of formula) which sadly resulted in babies dying. That factory has been temporarily shut down. Result: shortage.

Interestingly, pictures popped up earlier this week of pallets of formula being shipped and stored at the border for use in immigrant shelters/detention centers. So, we have the formula…it’s just being prioritized for humanitarian purposes at the border presumably through lucrative federal contracts that must be honored by the manufacturers.

There is nothing wrong with sending formula to the detention centers. Between your lack of care of covid and these places, you are pretty heartless.

Are you the same poster with the absurd observation about Covid causing the baby formula shortage? Is this how you try to make a comeback on that slice of idiocy?

Viral mutations may cause another ‘very, very bad' COVID-19 wave, scientists warn
Already other variants have emerged, notably one called 501Y.V2 in South Africa, that are just as worrying as B.1.1.7, Farrar adds. "It is essentially a numbers game: The more virus is circulating, the more chance mutants have to appear," he says. In the long term, mutations could arise that threaten the efficacy of vaccines.

7. You seem to be under the mistaken impression that people tracking this thread care what you think? Evidenced by your attempt to discredit the data with inflated opinions not backed by data yourself? You could have chosen to not comment on this post. You could have chosen to not read this post altogether. Yet you feel the need, the urge, to make comments without facts time and time again. It shows your fear. Your insecurity. Your need to convince others that you are correct and the science and data is wrong. There is nothing that I can say nor do to help you. You must decide yourself to see the world as it is, then choose how you will navigate those obsticles. In the meantime, take comfort in knowing that, for now, there is not a more serious variant detected that will outpace Omicron. For now. The question is, how many repeated infections can a child withstand before the cumulative damage takes its toll?

Then wear a mask. Or stay home. You have two options entirely in your control.

Then where is the baby formula??? The pandemic is impacting every part of our life because of idiots like you who think spreading a virus is fun.

?

DP

There was contamination at the Abbott factory (a huge producer of formula) which sadly resulted in babies dying. That factory has been temporarily shut down. Result: shortage.

Interestingly, pictures popped up earlier this week of pallets of formula being shipped and stored at the border for use in immigrant shelters/detention centers. So, we have the formula…it’s just being prioritized for humanitarian purposes at the border presumably through lucrative federal contracts that must be honored by the manufacturers.

#themoreyouknow

There is nothing wrong with sending formula to the detention centers. Between your lack of care of covid and these places, you are pretty heartless.

I’m far from heartless. And I’m not philosophically opposed to providing formula to immigrants.

I’m merely pointing out that the formula shortage isn’t covid related. We are 2 years into covid btw, and this is a new thing prompted by the Abbott factory issue. I’m also flagging that we do have formula but are opting to send it to immigrants being held in TX and CA instead of stocking our grocery shelves. That is impacting the supply.

We could temporarily shut down the border btw…particularly given the covid situation. It’s interesting that you are flipping out about covid and masks in mcps without connecting the dots to the border. You do realize our mcps student #s increased after the border reopened. While migrants cross into tx or ca, lots settle here because of family connections. Unvaxxed kids even.

Again, no judgment. Just stating facts which many people aren’t aware of.

THE MOST PLAUSIBLE EXPLANATION (HOPEFULLY) IS A LACK OF INDOOR MASKING / CLEANING AND THE ASSUMPTION IS THAT THIS IS NOT A NEW OR DIFFERENT VARIANT IN PLAY. REMEMBER THESE NUMBERS ARE JUST IN THE PAST 10 DAYS.

Capitalized and bolded? You realize that school is conducted indoors, right? Outdoor activities are always going to be the exception that covers part of the day, not the entirety of the day. And cleaning is irrelevant. Anyway, numbers will come down, and I look forward to your deep thinking on that fact set.

+1
Also, OP is acting like the only possible place Covid is being spread in the community is in schools. Spoiler alert: it’s not. Yes, there is a rise in cases in the community, and yes, that includes children who attend school. But that doesn’t mean they got it at school. I’m a HS teacher and had two students with Covid over the past two weeks. Both got it from parents, who got it at work.

About the only useful thing to see the list of elementary schools is that they are a proxy for zip code/town level data. However, I find the county website better for that because it includes all the adults too.

She previously admitted she doesn’t like interacting with others (except on dcum, apparently), so she’s probably trying to perpetuate fear of covid in an attempt to continue her reclusive lifestyle.

This is how you seriously mess up your kids, folks.

No. She did not. I did. Because frankly, careless people like you have utterly destroyed my faith in humanity. If our culture is truly this sick, I want no part of it.

If you think your kid isn't messed up by you teaching them their soccer games are more important than their biology teacher with chemo's life, I don't want my kids anywhere near yours. No doubt you spend a great deal of time trying to make the world respect larlx's new pronouns, but making them wear a mask? That's a bridge too far.

Our kids still go to school --masked. We do everything we can. But the trust and hope I once had that people would do the right thing? It's mostly gone. Especially when it comes to the UMC in the DMV. It's significant, I think that PG county takes this seriously and Moco refuses to. It's significant that the majority of schools with the highest case numbers skew from the conservative, affluent areas of the county. My kid's high school only made the chart at all in the last few days. You could say there's a lack of testing at play too and I wouldn't deny it. But there's more going on than this.

I said it at the beginning of the pandemic, when you said this was just the flu affecting fat old people and I will say it again: COVID is as much of a scourge as it is because of massive entitlement. It is a virus spread by the careless rich, and suffered by the people they never even see.

Now you're saying it's no big deal. I'm not sure how you think this will end, Larlx's mom. But not well. You haven't been right yet.
