The testing for kids is on the honor system.
Once again, the 2 day delay is to take stock of who quit over the break |
| Are students having trouble finding a test to take? |
They’re passing out tests at schools on Monday and Tuesday. |
| While DCPS is trying to do the right thing (and hope their portal to register test works and doesn't crash under the onslaught), the information handed out it not very comprehensive. For instance, what should we do if our kid tests positive over the break? Would a simple negative rapid test on Tuesday be sufficient to attend school on Wednesday? Does the school need to be informed? We were lucky to get a positive PCR test early in the break but rapid tests do not have a date associated with them. In that latter case (positive rapid test over the break), how long should they stay isolated? 5 days as per CDC guidelines and 5 days of masking, or something else? A table with different scenarios would be nice. |
Edited. |
But will they have enough for every student? I'm reading the paper that there's a shortage of tests in DC now and people are being told not to go to the ERs. I thought the DCPS idea was many students would get tested in the community. (library, kiosks, curative etc) and they'd have SOME tests for those who couldn't. |
No, they said they'd be giving out tests, enough for each student. People are being told not to go to the ERs TO TEST. |
+1. They said tests are already delivered to the schools. So even if there’s a shortage in the community, that wouldn’t impact this effort. |
There is no shortage in DC to get a rapid test. You could go today to one of the fire stations and get 2 boxes if you wanted. No need to wait till Monday/Tuesday and get from the schools. The libraries have been handing them out since 12/22. |
True. But the lines have been awful and they’ve been running out before the end of the posted hours. We’re waiting for the school distribution to hopefully avoiding standing outside in the rain for an hour. |

Just to put the word out there: Bowser mentioned other "test-to-return" policies after future breaks. It might behoove everyone to get some rapid tests, which are available at pharmacies (if you search) and online.

+1 Thank you for the reminder. We will just ask family from other states to ship us some if need be because they are not testing at all. |
Supposedly insurance should start reimbursing for them as of today but I haven’t heard anything from my insurance. |
| So how do upload results? Photos are results? |
Yes and on the honor system that result and picture is from 1/4. |
