She was in theater obviously so it makes sense she might have some of that "energy." There's no way for you to be able to assess the intentions of her former boyfriends btw. Finally, regarding her husband....a reminder that he was a cute little Hottie in his day too and in addition to being a respected actor and sharing that interest, he comes from a prominent family, he father was also a well respected actor. |
Carrie Bradshaw is a character in a book/show.
And SJP is an actress playing a role. Do people need to look like their character? There are plenty of actors/actresses who don’t look like their character. Is that really an issue? We know they aren’t actually the character they are playing. Or maybe OP just wants to rag on SJP’s looks? Gross. |
This is a ridiculous thread.
Personality goes a long way in attraction. Carrie Bradshaw was vivacious and witty and engaging and had a personality. She wasn't a bland model with a pretty face. Believe it or not, many men are attracted to personality over beauty. But let's play this game. The very wealthy Mr. Big could have any models he wanted with a snap of his fingers. But he knows most are dull and boring and aren't at his intelligence level. Then he meets Carrie, who's strikingly different from all the usual boring beautiful and groomed women in his life. She stands out. That's definitely attraction. |
DP. I can keep sjp separate from Carrie and no, nobody looked to Carrie as a role model. She was fascinating, kinda like Parker Posey as Party Girl? We shlubs couldn't pull it off (plus we were wayyyy too Type A responsible trying to pay off student loans and go to work (well refreshed and in different clothes) every day as a new associate at a firm or whatever). So the lifestyle was an escape for us. I think she was perfect for the part but as for SJP I do wish she had removed that chin mole or whatever, just because it was distracting in hi-def. But whatevs. We all have flaws. |
Rude, Low quality men it sound like |
It’s just a show. |
I’m not reading this whole thread but OP unless you were a woman in NY in the 90s/2000s you have no clue what you are talking about. And for those who think she was too skinny, that was the look back then- Paltrow, Halle Berri, Kate Moss. Also people went out a lot, diverse crowd so you met people from different industries. Not like around DC where everyone is so stuffy and affected. |
This. I enjoy watching the British actresses on the British series because plastic surgery is rare. The British actresses look like real women. You even see British actors and actresses with bad teeth once in a while. |
OT but that’s what was so weird about the show. The character’s personality was crap. |
+1. Such great role models we are for our children. |
I never found any of the guys she dated to be over the top gorgeous either. Good looking, yes. Rich, some. But they weren’t strikingly attractive like Smith Jerrod. Aiden was too good for her for sure because he was a good guy and she walked all over him but it was his personality that made him so attractive. |
Agree. |
I agree. I think her personality was the worst part of her and made the character so unattractive. The character was shallow, self-absorbed and not very smart. The big Mr thing is so funny. He is the gold ring for the women of the show. He would never never ever date her in real life. She is not pretty, her personality is cold and low energy and she general has little true interest in men. |
Agree, British shows are refreshing to watch. |
I know a woman who is a total doppelgänger of SJP’s (literally could play a younger version of her) down to the fashion sense. She has no problem dating, at all.
I guess that’s shocking for the anti Semites in this thread. |
