Why were the 90s so great?

The pound me too crowd is here! The intern was of legal age and the oral was consensual. I am frankly tired of the women coming forth 3 or 5 decades later when they're old and worn to have their chance in the spotlight to say they were raped 50 yrs ago. Like s t f u who cares after so much time has passed? Where's your proof ho?

Your exhaustion about this is duly noted. And she didn’t wait 50 years. And you don’t seem to understand what sexual harassment *is*.

That said, let’s not pretend like Republicans cared about sexual harassment. They just wanted to expose Clinton’s philandering because they thought it was immoral.

Whatever.

Sexual harassment? Lol

Monica Lewinsky Revealed The Sneaky Trick She Used to Get Bill Clinton’s Attention Prior to Their Infamous Affair
Bre Williams

Published onSeptember 3, 2021
Nearly 30 years ago, American activist Monica Lewinsky made headlines after it was revealed that she had an affair with U.S. President Bill Clinton. The scandal took the nation by storm, with many people itching to learn more about Lewinsky and Clinton’s secret relationship. While both kept the details of their affair to themselves at first, Lewinsky has opened up about their intimate encounters in recent years. She previously revealed the sneaky trick she used to get Clinton’s attention, which ultimately sparked their infamous love affair.

Lewinsky relived her and Clinton’s torrid encounters, which didn’t begin right away according to her. The former White House intern revealed that when she started working for the Clinton administration in 1995, she wasn’t attracted to the president, sharing that she viewed him as just an “old guy with wiry, gray hair.”

“Early on, there was this period where I had these strange encounters with these other interns, one in particular, of this girl gushing about the president, talking about how handsome he was,” Lewinsky said in the docuseries per People. “I just remember thinking to myself, ‘Ew, he is this old guy with wiry, gray hair! How could she find him attractive?'”

Lewinsky said that she maintained this impression of Clinton until she found herself standing in his presence for the first time.

“I was struck by the way that he had this ability to hold everybody who was there… everybody was sort of starry-eyed in his presence,” she continued. “I kind of have to laugh at my younger self. But that was when my crush started.”

Monica Lewinsky’s crush soon turned into something more
After getting “the full Bill Clinton” effect, Monica Lewinsky’s crush developed. However, after attending a staff party at the White House in November 1995, her crush became a full-on attraction.

During this time, Lewinsky upped the ante by flashing her thong to the President, marking the start of their saucy affair.

“I realized the top inch or two, oh my God, of my underwear was showing, my thong underwear, and I thought , ‘Well I’ll up the game.'” Lewinsky explained. “I knew [Bill] was walking out of a room, and instead of pulling my trousers up as I would have done in any other instance, I didn’t. It was unnoticeable to anyone else in the room, but he noticed.”

Shortly after, Clinton called the then 22-year-old into his office, where she made her feelings for him known.

“I don’t think that at that point in my life, my heart had ever beat as fast,” Lewinsky said. “I blurted out, ‘You know I have a crush on you?’ And he laughed and smiled and then asked if I wanted to go into the back office. And I did. It was dark, and he eventually asked me if he could kiss me, and I said yes.”

- There was very little social media, especially for teens. I didn't get an email address until I started college or a cell phone until a couple years after graduation. That was common. If a regular citizen did something embarrassing or stupid, it didn't/ couldn't go viral.
- Terrorism wasn't on the radar like it is now. There was a tangible shift after 9/11.
- There was a general expectation that by 22, you were to be "grown and flown". That usually entailed living in a crappy apartment with roommates and eating a lot of frozen waffles for at least a couple years, but it also entailed the kind of freedom that a lot of 22 year olds don't have today. I don't know anyone today who would be okay with their 22 year old daughter backpacking through Europe with friends and staying in youth hostels with no means of regular communication or health insurance, but it was a perfectly normal thing in 1995.

I backpacked through Europe at 21 with less than $1000 in savings, and made it last months. I didn't have a smartphone yet - it was 2009. I was riding out the recession hoping that "experiences" would qualify me for jobs later (it ultimately did - languages and street smarts are good to have). My parents sort of freaked out when I couldn't be reached by phone for a few days, but they got over it. They could do all the worrying and fretting they wanted, but I was on my own and there was nothing they could do about it.

Because you were young and weren’t paying attention. At least, that was the case for me. I wasn’t paying attention to the war on drugs, homophobia, racism and inequalities, women’s rights, or the ticking time bomb on the climate.

The women of the '90's were the best looking of any decade.

Five words: Shirley Manson and Liz Phair.

I grew up in the 80s and 90s. I think it's nostalgia OP. Just like during the 80s-90s, the 60s were romanticized and that was our idea of retro back then....now 90s are retro :0
There was goo/fun, but also bad (more bullying, homophobia, no tolerance for differences).

Or whatever. The shitty things from the present are always magnified while the terrible things from the past are always minimized.

And, even though each generation laments that kids these days and the world in general are terrible -- not like when they were kids -- the world has generally been getting better decade over decade.

Objectively, the whole world has been getting WORSE every decade for over 100 years now. We are living during an unprecedented, human caused, ecological disaster and mass extinction event.

You're insane if you think 1921 was a better time to be alive than today. The crime. The disease. They were still lynching people for Christ's sake. Eugenics was in fashion and being gay was a felony.

“For perspective, scientists estimate that in the entire 20th century, at least 543 land vertebrate species went extinct. The researchers estimate that nearly the same number of species are likely to go extinct in the next two decades alone.“

A person born in the 20’s had far more life expectancy and future increased standard of living than any of their predecessors could have ever imagined. Our future will not be that much more improved.

That’s pitiful. If you think that makes Clinton look better, you are sadly mistaken. A man in a position of immense power abused that power to take advantage of a young woman. Don’t forget that Lewinsky got removed from her White House job when the other staff figured out what was going on.

I vividly remember Senator Barbara Boxer going to the Senate floor and condemning a Republican Senator for a consensual affair with a staffer, saying that such a relationship is always abusive. She then went to the floor to defend Clinton a short time later. I’m sick of the “it was a different time” argument. Everyone knew it was wrong, they just chose to argue that the Republicans were just being sexual prudes. Political expediency.

LMAO you are delusional. Monica is profiting off her new interviews and new movie about this. Whatever sells for her now since no one really respected her after the scandal. Young woman my ass she knew what she was doing and who she was doing.

That's a nice sleight of hand - comparing the person born in the 1920s to their predecessors rather than to us, today. Or people in the 1990s. It's absolutely clear that people born in the 1990s have a far better life expectancy and standard of living than someone born in the 1920s. Also, you ignored the rampant discrimination cited above. We still have problems, but things are much better for people who aren't straight, heterosexual, Christian white men today than they were in the 1920s.

Life expectancy 1921: 60 (male) / 61.8 (female)
Life expectancy 1991: 72 (male) / 78.9 (female)

The 90s was a decade of largely no war (for us) and largely fun. Everything was on auto. There was a lot to love. But remember this -- we sleep walked in the 90s. We did not take care of what was important. The seeds of the housing crisis and the 2008 recession were set in the 90s. Not dealing directly with OBL led to 9/11. The 90s were great. Maybe so great we took our eyes off the ball.
