Hmmm, this seems like an exaggeration for the position.

Probably just disingenuous to include stock options in here. I bet her base and bonus are fairly market.

Sorry, missed her follow up, which confirmed what I was thinking. I’m in a similar role in tech with $175 base and $40 bonus at a mid-career level.

NP. No, it’s not disingenuous to include full comp package as long as it’s clearly stated. Stock is an important and potentially lucrative component of a benefits package.

NP here. And this. Where else do people think the sky high comp packages at FAANG companies come from? They aren't laying all of that out in cash!

115K, professor. I don't make a lot of money by DCUM standards but my schedule flexibility is gold to my family.

Do people come to DCUM for any reason other than to brag about their finances? This entire site a huge, self-congratulatory circle j**k with some parenting questions thrown in to give it a veneer of respectability.

350k-450k including cash bonus (stock is not included in that figure because it vests over 24 months).

Comp Sci undergrad plus my MBA, I work at one of the 3 Big Tech Orgs

I disagree. It's very helpful to see what other people are making, both within and outside of my industry. It allows me to better negotiate my own salary. I think transparency is very helpful.

I’d take the transparency here with a HUGE grain of salt.

Um, more like upper middle class.

The people responding are talking about pretax income. Not post tax. Also, with inflation and high housing prices 200k is not what it used to be.

Get real.

What used to be upper middle class is not just... well.. middle class.

Hard pill for many especially white americans who did everything the right way to accept.

BS. Anyone who is making over 100k, certainly over 100k, is upper middle class. Especially if the other spouse also works, which is common. DH and I are both GS-15s making 165k and change. That's a lot of money. Yeah, if we want to live in an expensive neighborhood, then it's not send your kids to private school or join the country club money, but it's a lot. We don't take expensive vacations, partly because we don't want to, but we want for nothing. And once the younger kid is out of day care we will feel really flush.

No you're not. The median income in loudoun County where many tech workers are located is 142k. . If you make below there you are certainly not upper middle class. You are below middle class. I'd call that lower middle class.

Todo, we aren't in Kansas anymore.

You wit your two lower class incomes are no where near upper middle class. You just hit middle class.

You are bad at math. 330k > 142k, by a lot.

Wow, I would be interested in learning about your career trajectory sans identifying details. TBH, more interested in how you got there with kids. I assume you have kids, because, you know, it’s DCUM.

Could folks include some salient detail on “consulting” it’s such a catch all term. Are you consulted on HR systems after deploying HR systems for Anderson or IT consulting drawing your years as CIO. Adding some context helps others find their path.

I technically work just under 30 hrs/wk (in reality it’s quite a bit more) and make 21k/yr.

I’m an adjunct professor. My doctorate degree does a lot for me financially.
