Yep. I’m a Democrat who has increasingly had enough. NOTHING can be positive. EVERYTHING has to be torn down. It’s Taliban-esque and scary. Pretty soon they’ll try to shame laughing or dancing.

I want to have a yummy meal with my family and feel gratitude for our many blessings, thank you very much.

So is Christmas, Easter, and every other holiday you could come up with. And I’m sure you have many criticisms of the 4th of July and all the historical inaccuracies therein.

But what good will come from eliminating every tradition and celebration from a society? Is that really going to be an improvement? Must every festive occasion be turned into an opportunity to reflect on oppression and if so when are we allowed to experience unifying moments of joy in our culture? Can you even have a society without any traditions that cause people to bond, feel nostalgia, and connect with neighbors?

Im honestly curious what the end game is here. Is the plan to create new traditions and celebrations in the progressive society of the future?

Well we should obviously tear down the Greek temples and great pyramids, too (slave labor). Pretty much everything needs to hit the dumpster . . . Except a few blocks Portland or Seattle (whichever one has the free zone paved in human feces $
& addicts).

Tearing down white supremacy shouldn’t be something for you to scoff at. And the United States has no authority to tear down anything in those countries, so not sure why you’d even big to use those as examples.

Thanksgiving stems from our country’s evil past. I think if we truly just want it to be a day of thankfulness why do we keep it on the same day and keep up similar traditions?

Honestly I think because it doesn’t effect enough people is the reason why we don’t care. If it involved black, Asian, or non white hispanics I’m sure we’d care more.

It’s “affect enough people.” I’m sure that a person of your obvious mental stature knows that.

It’s funny that you fell for that “I’m a democrat” line. Or you’re just sock puppeting.

When I see people lash out like this, it’s clear to me that they’re complete losers with very small lives. Let me guess … dead end job, don’t have any friends, spouse can’t stand you. Am I right?

Not even close

When I see people make pompous, stupid, inaccurate statements (our country’s evil past..) and cap them off by proving that they don’t even know the basic rules of English grammar, it’s clear to me that they are uneducated on all fronts, rendering their opinion virtually meaningless

Wake up. The country as you know it was built on exploiting certain peoples. Does knowing that and yet doing nothing about it help you sleep at night? Do you really want your kids to grow up ignorant? Believing in Santa is one thing but turning a blind eye to untold suffering of generations is quite another.

So you made the willful to come here to get your share of ill gotten gains? Go home. We don’t need immigrants that hate the country.

Jim would like a word . . .: https://youtu.be/a9UFyNy-rw4

File him together with Trevor Noah: a “comedian” from a foreign country talking trash about a place he voluntarily came to and where he has had success, with the primary consumer being brain dead white liberals who think lapping up his “comedy” makes them cultured and intelligent.

You didn’t even watch it, did you? Jim is every bit as much an American as you could be. That he is an immigrant does not devalue his opinion one iota. Dissent by immigrants pretty much founded this country. If you don’t like that, maybe you’re the one who should leave. There are plenty of other countries where your intolerance of dissenting views and the rights of immigrants to speak freely are in line with prevailing norms, so you wont be short of choice.

I’m ok with dissent, and recognize that immigrants can think what they want to think. But here’s the thing: why come to a country if you have so many issues with it? Why expect to be accepted if you do, particularly of that country has given you a bigger platform and more success than many homegrown citizens will ever see? It’s just terrible, trashy behavior and does not deserve any praise at all.

Trashy behavior is discrediting viewpoints merely because they are held by immigrants. You maybe like Alexander Hamilton. You may not like him. But how many people would take you seriously if you argued we should discount his writings because he was born in the Caribbean? Should Dinesh D’Souza shut up as well with his complaints about various Democratic politicians and policies? To say that immigrants shouldn’t come to the US and engage in political discourse is like saying that immigrants shouldn’t come to the US and play baseball.

Actually,YES, Dinesh D’Souza should shut his mouth.

While there is plenty to consider and lessons to be had from history, the spirit of Thanksgiving doesn’t need to be undermined by focusing, on that particular day, on human fallibility nor on politics.

Instead, the focus should be on gratitude, sharing, family and friends, and the good things humans can do, like grow and learn.

The Chancellor’s idiotic email is an almost comic example of wokeness gone awry.

Agree completely. And it’s because of positions like this that Youngkin was elected in Virginia.

No it wasn’t. Youngkin won because of an elaborate right-wing straw man about CRT being taught in schools and exasperation by northern Virginia mommies over closing schools during a deadly pandemic. And because Terry McAullife, who actually was a decent governor, ran a bad campaign.

I find your misogyny breathtaking every time I read it on DCUM.

Whatever side you think you are on, it is wrong.

I find your misunderstanding of big words to be astonishing. Maybe don’t use them if you can’t do so correctly.

And I have no idea what you mean by your comment about me supposedly posting repeatedly. Your hair-trigger overreaction tendencies are duly noted.

^ Making grammatical errors doesn’t mean I am incorrect, it means you had nothing to point out but that.

In this case I’d think reading comprehension would be more important. I’m glad you think in the past our country wasn’t evil. Good to know you condone the murders of the Native American, bombings, slavery, segregation, etc this country did in the past. You are part of the issue. Failing to acknowledge that our traditions our based in whiteness when they were not the only ones who made this country what it is.

I am soooo sorry you are made to feel that your white holiday is ‘bad’ and people are trying to get you to think about it. Must be nice because as a minority it’s not something we get the luxury to think about only a few times a year.

No, I think you just have nothing real to contribute. You are the same type of person who said black families could not make decisions about their children when they had an ‘eighth grade’ education.

Why is this thread still going on? People still angry about an email sent 5 days ago? Didn’t your Thanksgiving full of happiness, smiles and good food trump all the anger and hostility you’re still feeling over an email? Please get some fresh air and get off the Internet.

You and your kind can't even recognize misogyny when you engage in it. It's because misogyny is part and parcel of your identity. You like hating women. You enjoy demeaning them. So, you can't even recognize misogyny when you practice it, because you enjoy it.

The rest of us see you for what you are.
