I've seen lots of discussion in multiple threads about voting in a new BOE. I thought it might be helpful to condense peoples' thoughts here. Who are you voting for and why/who aren't you voting for and why? I'd start, but honestly, I'm looking for information to help make a decision. |
The other thread(s) already discusses whom people want to vote for or not vote for. |
I find this online forum to be a helpful resource which helped me get a better sense of each of the participants.

Is there a thread exclusively about the BOE? I've just seen pieces here and there in discussions of other things, which is why I started this thread. |
The thread was started months ago before all the candidates even announced their candidacy. Respectfully please search. |
I was impressed by Natalie Zimmerman and Laura Stewart. Having an elementary teacher like Zimmerman on the board would bring a much needed perspective. And Stewart made several pragmatic and sensible suggestions. I'm voting for both of them. |
It sort of boils down to 3 groups of choices (District 2,4, at-large):
1. Incumbents - Smondrowski, Evans, Harris 2. Apple ballot (teacher's union endorsed) - Zimerman, Stewart, Montoya 3. Rebels: Diaz, Mandel, Mofor Sorry, couldn't come up with a better name for group 3, but they are all sort of consistent in wanting big change, SROs back in schools, and stuff like that. So if you like how things are going, vote group 1. If you like the teacher's union (keep in mind their 2022 apple ballot picks currently sit on the board, but aren't up for election this cycle), vote group 2. If you think big changes are needed, vote group 3. |
Aren't there already former teachers on the Board? |
Respectfully, I tried but didn't find the thread you're talking about. Also, if it didn't have all of the candidates, a new thread may be helpful. If it's not helpful to you, that's fine. I do appreciate the responses so far, and I'll take a look at the linked video. |
Harris is a former HS teacher. Yang is a former college and career counselor. |
I was the OP of that other thread, which was intended to monitor who was declaring their candidacies. I appreciate this OP starting a new thread now that the election is coming up. |
Mandel is not an acceptable candidate. She is Moms4Liberty |
DP. The threads mentioned above updated as candidates filed. Helpful to read the comments there. For example, posters mentioned one of the candidates home schools their kid/s, and is affiliated with liberty moms group(??). |

In the video, Mandel says she wants to be the voice of homeschooling and private school parents on the board. |
