Last year 229 black people were shot and killed by police. The preoccupation that black people must teach their kids how to avoid getting shot by police is just another data point in the very robust narrative that humans are very poor at assessing risk. A MUCH higher number of black people die (like 10-20x+) as a result of cars AND the disparity between blacks and whites is even greater. Systemic racism can be attributed as a cause (worse infrastructure in black neighborhoods, particularly worse ped and bike)… yet everyone focuses on the 229 deaths by cop. [/quote]
