Privy to colleague’s impending firing - it sucks

Anonymous
I’ve learned that one of my colleagues will be terminated. In my view, the writing is on the wall, but she doesn’t see it. I feel so bad and wish I could tell her.

This sucks.

Is she on a PIP?

No, but they’ve been increasingly hostile to her in recent weeks/months (she is a junior person working with senior leaders).

It does suck. Unfortunately, the higher up you move in an org, the more of this kind of stuff you end up knowing - and even worse, knowing about bad behavior that didn't get punished.

At times it can feel like we have to suspend some parts of our humanity to be a corporate cog.

What did she do?

Can you let her know to start looking? She sounds oblivious if she’s not picking up the signals. Some people need to be told what’s actually happening if they don’t have the intuition or street smarts to figure it out for themselves.

Why would the leaker tell you of this intended firing? Are they typically a gossiper?

This is a very immature and petty way to deal with employees. Being hostile shows the emotional maturity of an 8 year old.

Do NOT do this unless you want terminated yourself.

This is the typical white old men senior management behavior.

I’m curious about what OP even knows about the situation. I have worked in a work environment where higher ups didn’t fire a manager who was a problem. The manager was completely oblivious to how uncomfortable and unhappy they had made their staff, who were terrified and reaching up for help. People kept leaving for greener pastures and the manager blamed everyone but themselves. Sometimes “colleagues” seem completely wonderful with their peers, but are horrible to their staff, who are not in a position to do anything but suck it up, leave, or take the risk of retaliation for raising concerns internally.

No, this is 1000% mean girl behavior

Just help her find something else once she's out. Not hearing from any of my colleagues hurt wayyy more than losing the job itself.

Neither hurts.

Neither (1) losing a job, and/or (2) losing a job and being frozen out by former colleagues hurts? You've been through this and just brushed it off, then?
