The Rock-N-Roll Marathon is on Saturday, March 16. This marathon cuts across a large part of city on a west to east route which means drivers going north/south might not be able to get to where they’re going. Check out the map and plan carefully if you’re in DC on Saturday.
Also: Please respond with a comment or “BUMP” to keep the thread at the top of “Recent Topics” throughout the day (Friday, March 15) so that as many folks as possible see it. Thanks. Here is a link with info and map of the race course. https://www.popville.com/2024/03/rock-and-roll-half-marathon-in-saturday-there-will-be-uh-some-street-closures/?fbclid=PAAaakbfkC0cC287p1_XZ3EboiocqKaKkzcUrmc1jc8CjJBkhrX93EXaswSJc_aem_AXT7FZS7V_lnLjfWNSzWqggp5RxvonCt5T3gkHyH0hjAJq1zkEZnTCBNJENJlyjRYdA |
| Oh no! I thought this marathon was gone?? It’s soooo irritating. The most obnoxious thing. Worse than the marine corps one. I get that the city is desperate for activity and people but surely we could have let this one stay pre covid. Or give it a new route. |
Preach! (And I say this as a marathon runner!) There are so many ways this could be improved. Start with having it on a Sunday when there’s less traffic. |
| See, and I’m annoyed because they moved it AWAY from my neighborhood! Since my teen was a baby, we have walked to the end of the street to watch the marathon go by. I loved it! Now it’s a mile away. Boo. |
| I hate this marathon so much. |
Me too. Can we all get together and get it at least routed away from our residential neighborhoods? This is a menace. Over the years, it has created several Saturday morning urgent parenting conflicts for me, including making an emergency room trip far more difficult. The stupid local amplified break0of-dawn bandstand used to be just a block away from my home, too, in the Suntrust days. I know each AMC needs to approve the PITA every year and would really prefer those of us who object get listened to. Also, I kind of hate that convicted fraudster former DC Councilmember Harry Thomas Jr's wife still has a leadership role in their for-profit organization. I don't know how much she knew about where all that stolen wealth was coming from, but she has a lot of nerve continuing to seize my family's unwillingly-given resources for her profit. |

+2 DOes one even have to qualify for any of these BS "marathons"? Why the charade? UGH. |
| I think focusing the Marine Corps Marathon as the big DC marathon is fine. We don't need a spring one too! Make it a half and call it a day. It seizes the city with traffic and closures. I'm curious if the revenue is really more than the amount it costs to close all these streets. I guess so if they keep agreeing to it... |
| Does anyone care about these marathons? We are limited to the Smithsonians, and have few options for outings, but to create this stupidity? |
The MCM is on a Sunday and perfect for DC. I've always suspected that the Rock & Roll marathon is paying of council members for approval. |
| The Rock and Roll this Saturday is only a half marathon. |
| LOL at all the hypokinetic non-runners who can't let the city set aside a couple of mornings a year for a little fun and recreation, not to mention some tourist dollars. |

I'm trying to get from upper N. Capitol to DCA around 4:30 in the morning. I can see that my normal route of taking N Cap to NY Ave and the tunnel will be closed.
Anyone have a suggestion for the best way considering this? Thank you! |
Exactly, these runs need to always be on a Sunday. Start at 8am and finish by noon, and the most you inconvenience is some churchgoers (we and are weekly mass attendees, so MCM does mean we go virtual or skip that week). Saturday in Spring is already BANANAS in DC, WTAF to add a for-profit marathon??? |
