My DS has been considering getting a perm. I purchased the curls with out the perm solution and attempted to curl his hair at home, allowing him to experience the sensation firsthand. To his dismay, he remarked that it resembled broccoli! He has thick, straight, black hair. Can anyone recommend a good place to get it done, and what's the typical cost for this service?

We’ve been looking for a place for my teen son as well so I hope you get some good recs. I asked my own stylist but she doesn’t do them. I’m afraid to just go somewhere random. |
Well, it's gonna look like broccoli. I think what you did with the curlers to give him an idea of it was very smart.
I haven't seen perms happen since 1989. And boys wanting them? Really? Wow. Are perms a thing again? I didn't even know you could get one. |
Any hair salon should be able to do it. Just call and make an appointment for a perm for boy's hair. |
Future fodder for "blunder years" posts on reddit, lol. |
This is seriously horrific.
Talk him out of it pronto. Signed- Spiral-perm PTSD from 1987 |
Yes, it’s a thing again. Go to the higher end salons. |
Yes, it’s been a thing for teen boys for at least a couple of years now. |
Except most stylists don’t do perms once they graduate cosmetology school. |
All I can think of is Mike Brady circa 1973. |
He can always go super short if he hates it. |
I asked my stylist when my son was interested. She said she had done a few for boys. If yours doesn’t do perms, call around and ask. I’d start with any place close to you. |
Can someone post a photo of what is popular now? I can't picture it. |
Look at any group of teen boys. It’s not the 80s perms you are imagining. Here’s a quick search on Pinterest https://www.pinterest.com/pin/for-baylor--165436986300671372/ |
