Is anyone else the fat sibling?

It feels really unfair to be the fat sibling. Between the two of us there isn't much difference in activity or what we eat. The skinny sibling has uncontrolled anxiety that is very severe despite medication. At one point was drinking 24 beers a day and losing weight. Now, sober, has gained maybe 10 pounds but still resembles a method addict compared to me.

Being the fat sibling stinks! In general population I would be average weight but within my family I’m the fat one, and again I’m not fat! With them if you aren’t thin you’re fat. Just today I told a family member, “fat is not a moral failing” but as usual it fell on deaf ears. Between family culture and society culture it’s a losing battle. I’m tired of it all. Can we just stop commenting on people’s bodies already!

I’m the fat sibling. I’m just super fat. It is what it is.

It also sounds like you’re the sibling without anxiety and addiction issues. Congrats!

Aka being the nice sibling?

I'm the fat sibling. My brother isn't super skinny but has other issues (alcohol use disorder, anxiety?) whereas I'm . . . just fat. I have an underweight child who needs to gain weight. Her doctor suggested eating more healthy fats. My father said or she could sit next to her mother. I don't even know what that means but clearly a dig at my weight.

I'm totally the fat one. Have always been the broadest/largest in terms of build - though not always fat. Now I'm just plain old 60-80 pounds of excess fat.

I'm the oldest of 3 (1 sister, 1 brother).

I'm also the only one who has a happy marriage, healthy kids, general good health, a stable job, no financial stress, and who doesn't struggle with active/highly destructive addictions.

So I decided about 25 years ago that I would take my challenges over theirs.

I'm the only child, and "the fat one" in my mother's family, because they're all skeletally thin. My BMI is 20

My son is very underweight and we just found out he's borderline hyperthyroid and might have an auto-immune disease. He's always been an anxious type, which would fit in with that diagnosis. Maybe your skinny sibling is self-medicating with alcohol, OP, and needs to get a thyroid panel with antibody testing.

I'm the fat cousin (only child) haha. My male cousin is the same age as me and always been super skinny. He also works a manual job and is handy around the house, so he's always building something or moving something. His sister has never really had a real job, but recently took up working out/online coaching/semi body building as a hobby/job and she's super fit!

And then theres me. Sedentary, trying to lose weight. I'm 30 lbs down but still a ways to go.

Congrats; that's great weight loss. Does/can your cousin help?

We’re all the fat siblings in my family. Two have had bariatric surgery but it only worked for one. There’s a lot to be said for genetics and I think it plays a much larger role than people realize.

I'm the fatter and less attractive sibling. My younger sister has always been willowy with a pretty face -- but she also runs and is vegetarian, so it's not like the reasons for thinness are a total mystery.

I happen to be the parental favorite, which is actually much more unfair to her.

I am/was always the fat/ugly sibling.

I did "lose the weight" in my 30s, and have mostly kept it off for a number of years. I did realize that I ate more than them, and my portion control was lacking. I also wasn't as active as them.

I have shifted my focus though - though I likely weigh the most still (not drastically), I am also the fittest, strongest, and in better shape than the rest of them. That makes me feel good.

If it's any consolation, I've been the fat sibling and I've experienced major anxiety and I'd pick being the fat sibling over the anxiety any day of the week.

I'm sure she could, if I wanted. I just really really hate working out haha. I've been doing mostly food based weightloss while incorporating some working out. Maybe when I lose a bit more and am ready to jump in a bit deeper!
