Is anyone awaiting boarding school decisions?

Anonymous
I know it's not as popular in this area but DD applied to a few boarding schools and decisions come out on March 10. She's been accepted to a couple day schools which is great but her first choice is boarding. On pins and needles and trying to keep the day schools in play while holding out hope. Anyone else? And, if so, where did you apply? DD is hoping for Lawrenceville but also applied to a couple New England schools.

DD is at Emma Willard. A friends DD is at Lawrenceville. Both girls are loving their experiences and the independence that comes with boarding school.

Good luck and I hope your DD gets into Lville.

Awaiting Ms Porters Farmington CT and Loomis Chaffee CT. But also content with the accepted choices within the area as well

Good luck to your DD! I am a boarding school grad and absolutely loved it. My kids are dayschool bound, but with a different income and a different set of interests, they could easily be in your shoes.

And I'm sure you'll get some DCUMers here talking about how you are shipping your kids off to reform school because you don't love them. Ignore.

We will be looking at boarding schools in a few years as well. I'm curious which day schools you all looked at in the area. We have a son, and the local school that resonates with me is St. Albans.

I cannot understand the appeal of boarding at a school with so few boarders. Life will happen off campus.

If you want close, look at Episcopal, St. Andrews, Mercersburg, etc.

OP here- thanks I am also a boarding school grad so I fully understand the benefits of boarding for the right kid. I have an older child for whom boarding would not be the right choice at all. But DD really wants it and I think she will benefit. I just hate the staggered decision release and the tight deadlines. We’re doing all the revisits for day schools and all that with the hopes that we won’t select one? Frustrating. And frankly I feel badly holding up a spot it we won’t take it as I know there are plenty of people waitlisted. I guess I’m glad I’m not the only one??

I think this person meant that they will apply to boarding and day schools - the day school that appeals is STA.

We were told 3/1-3/10 and I am now assuming it will be 3/10 so I can stop being expectant. At least it's been a busy week for distraction.

We’re waiting to hear from Madeira. I’ve been told that the number of applicants the last couple years has grown quite a bit and that an impeccable, straight-A transcript is no sure thing as the school has tried to diversify its student body.

Waiting. Only applied to one school for 9th and not feeling super confident about it.

Sounds like many/some redo 9th at BS (sports) so that might be an options for us too?
Good luck!

I’m wondering which school gave you that huge range of dates? I think boarding schools all try to be on the same page like independent day schools and March 10 is the date.

or maybe whitey gets in with less than perfect grades but varied extracurricular interests/talents (which is what I’ve heard Madeira weighs perhaps more than other schools—the extracurriculars, I mean)! However you want to play it, Snarky McSnarketan…
