Is anyone awaiting boarding school decisions?

Sending all of you good vibes tonight- and stay off the social media channels! Seeing packages and congrats videos only causes angst!

For any nights owls, Madeira decisions are posted in Ravenna already.

Waitpooled at Madeira. 4.0, laundry list of extracurriculars, biracial, low(er) socioeconomic background (asked for FA), coming from a nationally recognized out-of-state private. Must’ve been a really competitive year. Congrats to those who were admitted.

Does requesting FA lower your chances of being admitted?

I’ve heard in some cases it can, not sure how accurate that is, however.

There are very few ‘need blind’ boarding schools... so, for those that take into consideration your FA needs, it can be ‘easier’ to get in if you are full pay. How much easier - who knows. They only have a certain dollar amount pool of FA that really excellent students are competing for. It sucks.

Same. Which way are you leaning? Because of a change in family circumstances, it’s boarding or bust for us.

Not sure. My daughter is very intrigued by the idea of boarding. Madeira has a beautiful campus and my daughter enjoyed staying there at summer camp. She is doing GDS shadow day tomorrow so we will see how that goes, but I think Madeira is still her first choice. My wife thinks GDS will provide stronger academics, but I’ve told her I’m not sure that is true. I’m somewhat on the fence. I see the appeal of Madeira but my biggest reservation is the mod schedule. I see the benefits, but knowing my daughter I wonder if she will experience learning loss—particularly in a subject like math.

We also have an application in to St. Andrew’s in DE, but my daughter isn’t into that school as much. I basically told her that if she is going to consider boarding schools she should look at more than one so we picked that one.

Bottom line—I have no idea what we will do.

Accepted at Madeira with $10K merit scholarship. Does anyone know how common it is to get the merit scholarship?

PP, Congratulations! I didn't know Madeira did that. You must have a great kid!

Madeira began giving merit to high performing boarders to attract quality candidates. The higher performers tend to be day students. If this student can get into GDS, she is pretty smart.

Today has been a whirlwind but we are so grateful to be admitted to my DD's first choice and a couple others. It's such a weird thing with boarding schools with applicants from around the world, it's so hard to tell where you stand.
