We are new to MCPS this year (9th grader) and he wants to get health A and tech out of the way this Summer. Does anyone know when registration typically opens? I looked online and couldn't find anything although I don't find the MCPS site too user friendly Thanks for any help.

| April. You will know if you actually got into the class 24-48 hours before the class begins. |
|
They should be making updates to the website in March.

Is this true? I'm not OP, but also planning to sign my current 9th grader up for health over the summer. How can he plan his summer (get a job, volunteer, etc.) if he won't know until the summer if he got into summer school? |
|
Same situation here. We are planning as if he’ll get into the class and will re adjust if not.

Yeah, if this is correct it is awful for families trying to plan Summer logistics. |
But it'll be too late to get a job or sign up for something else if they really don't tell you until 24-48 hours before. I hope PP's info wasn't accurate! |

please search before you start a new thread same topic. Discussions about summer school have been happening since beginning of time.

There is an evening, virtual option for health. I don’t expect it to interfere with his job as a camp counselor. |
| If you dig you will find threads from last summer from parents trying to figure out if other kids received any login information for certain summer school classes as they reached the 24 hour mark before the class began. |
| My high schoolers have done Health A online (two of them last summer, one of them a few years earlier) and one of them did a math class online in summer school, and we had no problems with registering, being confirmed, or getting information in advance about the class. |
| My current junior who needs Health B for graduation was told by the school counselor to watch for summer school registration around the beginning of March. Class of 2025 is supposed to get a two-week priority registration window for Health B. |
+1 The board discussed summer school at the January 11, 2024 Business Meeting. https://www.boarddocs.com/mabe/mcpsmd/Board.nsf/files/D2DN5D5E3945/$file/ADOPTED%20FY2025%20Summer%20Programs%20240111%20REV%202.pdf Key Points: Due to the conclusion of ESSR funding, they are returning to a couple of practices from pre-pandemic - in person HS credit SS at regional high schools (instead of all HS) and charging tuition ($350 full pay, up from $300). They are keeping the CHSSP virtual program. The 2024 proposed sites for regional high schools are: • Montgomery Blair • Richard Montgomery • Seneca Valley Sessions are tentatively scheduled: • Session 1: June 24–July 12, 2024 • Session 2: July 16–August 2, 2024 Honors Health B Prioritization and Availability Students in the class of 2025 will have a two-week priority registration window for the Health B course. Students who register for the Health B course during registration window are guaranteed a spot. Health B will be: ● available both in person at regional high school sites and virtually through the CHSSP. ● offered free of charge to students in the class of 2025, as this graduation requirement has not been available during any of the free summer programs since 2020. ● offered in both session 1 and 2. |
