I'm curious as to how popular University of Florida is from the DC area.
On my kid's school scattergram, a decent # of kids from her public high school applied (showing 101 applications).
Though the 101 applications would be the combined total from the past few years (and would only those reported the information). |
Mine did, but we're Florida residents.
We did MCPS
I'm a bit surprised that so many kids from one high school in Fairfax County applied to University of Florida given how anti-Florida so many people in this area are. I guess there is no denying that UF is an awesome school!
Also, around here everyone is hyper focused on ranking and UF did rise (and I think ranked close to UVA via USNews) but not as difficult to get in as UVA.
It's ranked highly, and political views are easily discarded when prestige is on the line. |
100%! |
I'm wonder if it is easier or harder to get in if OOS. I know that the percent accepted is a lot lower than in-state, but I am wondering if it's because far fewer people from OOS would apply compared to in-state applicants.
12 at NJ public
Has anyone actually had their kid attend UF? If so, what was your experience like?
Not many from our large FCPS high school. I don't know how to separate year by year data on Naviance, but over past 3 years under 30 total. About 1/3 were accepted it looks like. Don't know if any actually enrolled.
UF admissions seem so unpredictable. At our school, there are kids with a 1390 who got accepted and then others with at 1510 get rejected. I have heard that they put a lot of emphasis on essays other institutional priorities like first gen.
19 at a public where 60-100 apply to many of the big state schools (Boulder, Pitt, UMD, UVM, UVA, Michigan, Penn State).
