I was 37 when I realized that continuing to eat the same portions was causing weight gain. I always ate a healthy diet, but after that I started to eat half as much to maintain my weight.
I don't always succeed, but I try... When I think of the huge portions I wolfed down as an athletic teen... In my youth I would not have believed that at some point I would need to subsist on almost nothing. I guess my overweight mother who ate normal portions should have been a clue. |
38-39 years old |
Post pregnancy and then again at perimenopause. |
Just relaxing this now (36). My weight crept up after I had my last child at 32, and I’ve settled into a weight about 15 lbs above where I’d like to be. Working out alone is not enough, when it was for me for so many years. |

After having my daughter - but I'm an older mom. I'm very small with a tiny frame. My BMR is only 1200 calories. TDEE is around 1800. It sucks. I love food. |
46.
I was pregnant and breastfeeding continuously from 39-45. Nursing helped me keep the weight in check. As soon as I weaned the last kid, I noticed things shifting. It's a crazy ride going from nursing right into perimenopause. |
Late 30s.
But looking back I’m pretty sure my weight gain, at that point anyway, was more psych med related than age related. |

I wonder if this is a struggle for, among others, past teen athletes because my spouse eats like a teen football player and has trouble eating less. The old habits are hard to change.
I read that the way we ate in the past affects our cells. That then carries forward as to whether we will struggle with weight gain or not. |
Never?
51 and haven’t changed a thing diet wise. |
Peri menopause. At 50 I really noticed this. Still in peri ant 52 and having to yet again modify how I eat. |
