I don't think CHC has ever attracted the absolute best teams in the country. Perhaps the growth of Triple Crown has resulted in a few less good teams coming, but because you have to be invited to Triple Crown I don't think it's made that big of an impact (other than Paramount not attending this year for the first time). As to the tournament being rigged or the refs favoring Metro teams, I think that's ridiculous. If you look at the performance of all the 30+ Metro teams (both Travel and the Regional teams) I think there is a broad spectrum of results consistent with what you would expect. As for the Metro Travel teams winning most of the Open divisions, if you watched the Metro Travel teams play, I think it was clear they were the the best teams at most of the age groups. Doesn't mean that the other teams were not competitive or that Metro didn't have to play well and work hard to win. But the fact that they did win, doesn't lead one to the conclusion that the tournament was rigged.
Personally I think individual awards are more rigged than game itself. Watch the online video of 13u 14u 15u of this year you can tell. Last year one age group metro got many awards but their team even not in the finals 😀
I don't think "watch the online video of 13u 14u 15u of this year" is a reasonable request. Do you mean "watch the finals for 13u, 14u, and 15u"? What should one look for to see that individual awards were rigged? It is hard to convince by simply saying "it's rigged" without providing any proof.
I think "rigged" might be overstating it, but I do think the individual awards (which are subjective at best) generally only go to players on teams that get pretty deep in the gold bracket. I think it would be really hard for a player on a team that doesn't do well in the tournament to be recognized, no matter how great their individual performance might be.
You want the awards to go to individuals who shine against tough competition. Shining in the silver bracket is nice, but it is not the same. Let's say you have more kills, but that may mean there was nobody there to block or dig successfully.
