What could be up? Elementary School Changes for next year?

Anonymous
Our ES Principal announced that there will be changes at our school next year and called an Emergency PTA meeting this week to share the change for next year?

What could be up? This is a grade 3-5 school with a CES. I’m hoping it is just a personnel change.

CCES? The principal is retiring so maybe that?

Got a similar email but we are at Oak View with a 5th grader so no impact to us.

It’s staffing season. They probably are about to experience cuts and want the community to agitate to save teachers.

Lots of staffing cuts coming in mcps.

Agree that if CCES it is to talk about the principal selection process.

And yet there is a full house at central office and they can pay for all their pet projects.

My kids are older, and I've been through 3 principal changes with one pending (Blair). An "emergency" PTA meeting is unusual in my experience. This is well-trod ground with plenty of stock emails around to inform parents of the process.

Basically, I don't think that it's just personnel change, but I don't know what it actually is.

+1. I've been through a principal change as well and we did not have an "emergency" PTA meeting.

When do principals learn of staffing cuts? And when do they tell their staff who is cut?

The only emergency PTA meeting we've had is at the high school level to talk about violent students, following a series of unacceptable incidents.

I would take this seriously.

Agree. I’ve been through 3-4 principal changes with my kid’s schools (es-hs) and 3 at schools I work at. Stock emails get sent out for those, definitely not an emergency pta meeting. It’s either something else or the person who sent the email has a flair for the dramatic.

I’m not sure of the timeline this year but in the past it has been during the first week of march.

Principals received the staffing memo last week on Thursday.

Because we ALL paid for ridiculous $ for McKnight's package and bloating of Central Office staff. And now we are going to face horrific cuts at the level where we need MORE staff, not less. May a higher power help our precious children!
