When will they tell teachers they're being involuntarily transferred? |
|
Jobs have started to get posted already. All involuntary transfers must get notified by 2/23.
I am a teacher and I am not really sure what this meeting could be about, but I am very curious! Keep us posted! |
If I had to guess, they're extending the honors for all model to CES to lower standards. |
| Just saw something on my neighborhood listserve about the ES increasing class sizes. The post was making a plea to register your incoming K early so a position isn’t lost due to the increased class size. |
|
Agree that this does not sound like it's about principal selection.
If it's a 3-5 ES with a CES there are only four options - Chevy Chase, Oak View, Pine Crest, and Piney Branch (local CES). If it's Piney Branch, maybe MCPS has decided to eliminate the local CES programs? |
|
Oak View and evidently funding cuts.
The resident population for Oakview is truly Title I. But the CES skews the school higher statistically. However the resident students still have all of the struggles of a high need school. |
If so, must be bad. I haven't typically seen the OV principal stick out his neck. |
I hope they're not losing their Title I funding. They have a 75% FARMS rate even with the CES. |
Even with the CES, Oak View is 73% FARMS. Maybe they are getting downgraded to Focus School, but I would be really surprised given those rates. |
|
Maybe the CES program is going away?
Maybe a teacher or staff member has been credibly accused of something? |
| There have been some surprising cuts to schools that are usually protected from such things, from what I'm reading in my teacher social media groups. Title I schools losing academic support positions, big cuts to ELD and Focus, things like that. I teacher at a Title I school and our principal announced that allocations had been handed down, but he needs to speak with staff impacted first. I'm expecting some rough news tomorrow. |
The central office staff earned their spot through years of union membership and working “in the trenches,” teaching in the schools. They have a right to those jobs. |
| Does anyone have a sense of how bad position cuts are this year? Are they the same if populations are stable, or are positions being cut even working population changes? Thanks. |
You are a joke if you think that CO staff should be entitled to their jobs when student-facing jobs are on the line to be cut. Your way of thinking is what is wrong with this school district. |
|
My supervisor emailed us last week to say that we don't have any major cuts. I do know that the budget is frozen for many things though and we were told to put in for anything we needed asap.
Interesting about the sudden meetings though. My DD goes to a title 1 school and they just said there will be an open zoom meeting next week with the principal/AP for anyone that wants to join in - they used to have monthly meetings but haven't done it in awhile. |
