| Keep us updated after the meeting please. I do hope Oak View can keep Title I status. |
What level? Is your school a focus or title 1 school? |
Seniority - you really should look up what it means. |
Good luck. |
These are the wrong places to cut! |
The Troll is strong in this one! |
|
The word is out that the new Title 1 formula MCPS is using cuts Oakview from Title 1 funding. This is because the CES students are from more affluent families which lowers the percentage of FARMS students.
If you are from Oakview or are an advocate for education come to the meeting Wednesday night. |
| I don't understand why school metrics include segregated programs that pull from outside of the catchment area within the school. Seems to incentive plopping a segregated program in a poorly performing school. |
Ah, yes, that is what it does. Look at the test scores from 3rd grade to 4th grade. Putting 48 high achieving students in the school does not change the achievement of the students who are already there. Oakview does an excellent job at serving both populations, but they are two separate populations. |
Same goes for Immersion programs. MCPS’ motives are clear here and it harms the students that are actually *zoned* for the school. |
It creates diversity. |
Anyone hear about other schools that will be affected by the Title 1 formula change? |
If 75% FARMS is too low to receive Title I funding, we are in really bad shape. |
Seems like a reason to move the CES |
Or just don’t include children who aren’t zoned for the school in the demographics for determining whether it’s a Title 1 school. It’s outrageous to bus some of the highest performing students to a school that mostly serves students who need the most support, and then strip the school of that support. |
