Survey regarding potential fee increases and service closures. They are planning to remove all bus service easily accessible for me — check your neighborhood! |
| Need to criminalize fare jumping. |
Yes, they do! How can Metro and the DC government ask Metro's fare-paying passengers and local taxpayers to pay for higher fares and higher subsidies when freeloaders still are allowed to steal services from Metro with impunity? |
There’s a free form answer box at the end of the survey! Try putting it there. (I seriously considered adding it but I’m more concerned with don’t cut my bus routes!) |
Because even if there were no fare-jumping at all, the localities would still need to increase their funding for the region's public transportation system to maintain good service levels and good repair. |
| With less commuters it makes zero sense to force Maryland and Virginia to pay more for a service that fewer people use. |
That's true, if you disregard the reality that people still need to go places. |
|
DC is the nation's capital, it is supposed to be a global world class city. One of the survey questions asked about a metro proposal to end service at 10pm.
Hard pass on that. That will lead to surge pricing for tourists, low income employees and people on fixed incomes. MD/VA should encourage their residents to use metro to lower carbon emissions for climate change purposes. They don't necessarily have to come into DC but using parts of the system helps. |
That's stupid, we need to allocate more funding. Why clog the criminal system with low crime people. All races of people evade the MTA fare in NYC. |
|
Encourage with a strongly worded email? Billboard? People are going to continue driving if they want to. |
People will take Metro (rail or bus) if it's convenient. If service ends at 10 pm, or trains or buses only come every half hour, or fares are sky high, then it's not convenient. |
That's the problem. Everyone starts doing it. I've stopped paying my bus fare because nobody else was. The system needs that funding. If it was only an occasional occurrence then nobody would care. |
Good. Then the cops there can be equal opportunity ass kickers and arrest the fare jumpers. I’d be that they also catch a not insignificant number of people with weapons and outstanding warrants. Double ass kick then. |
| So far less people are using the service and paying fares is optional so WMATA wants more money? |
