Has sleep tracking/Oura ring given you valuable insights?

I started using a continuous glucose monitor and have been amazed by the power of personalized health data. I finally know what spikes and doesn’t spike my blood sugar. I don’t want to become a Silicon Valley biohacker bro…but now I’m curious about sleep trackers.

Does anyone use the Oura? Does the feedback help you make changes to your sleep routine?

Yes! I use the data to change behavior.

My husband bought it solely for the sleep tracking. He ended up returning it. He obsessed over the amount of deep sleep for awhile but ultimately didn’t feel like he could really change anything based on the data.

I just use the one included to my Apple Watch. It’s fun to see the amount of REM sleep, etc. but it’s pretty consistent so occasionally tracking my sleep hasn’t affected my behavior.

My husband has tried both Apple’s built in sleep tracker and a 3rd party app analyzing the same data. They gave wildly different results. But regardless, how do you force yourself to get deep sleep? I dunno.

I have an Oura ring, I find the data on the app a little confusing.

I had a Jawbone up a couple of years ago and I really thought that was easy to use, and the data easy to read, sadly they discontinued those.

I do like the Oura ring much better than the Apple Watch. I find it has better insights in to my health and behavior.

Which CGM are you using? I want to start tracking with one and not sure which to try. Levels seems the best, but pretty pricey. May be worth it though.

I use my Fitbit and find it nominally helpful.

I don't trust what it tells me about deep/REM sleep, but do trust how long I was sleeping and heart rate.

The danger for me was that I started to let the results dictate how I felt. For example, I would wake up feeling good and rested, but if my stats told me I didn't get much REM/deep, I would suddenly feel lethargic.

I think OP is trying to sell this product…

I can't wear anything that tracks my sleep because it makes me feel like I'm being judged overnight and that disrupts my sleep. I tried years ago with a Fitbit and more recently with the Apple Watch. Not sure if that happens to anyone else though.
