I'm starting a new job March 1 and won't be able to take PTO over spring break or a vast majority of Summer. I am in between jobs for the next two weeks and DH is traveling for work this week. We have a small old cabin a couple of hours away (think This Is Us) and it's going to be going through renovations this summer since we figured may as well make it unusable now while I don't have PTO anyway.
So- in this situation, would you pull your K and 1st grade DDs from school the rest of the week and surprise them with 3 special girls days at the cabin? It's killing me sending them to school this week while DH is gone and I'm not working knowing the lack of flexibility I'm going to have for the next 6 months. I just want to bundle up and play outside, come in for board games, hot chocolate, a fire in the fireplace, breakfast for dinner, no wifi. |
If it's "killing you", then sure--go for it. Life is way too short and they're very young.
No. Keep their routine. They need it.
With kids that age? Of course! Sounds great.
No. You can go to the cabin over the weekends. Don’t send the message it’s ok to leave school
Yes, I would. It's K and 1st. Do it now since there will be grades where it's really difficult to miss school.

No, I would spend their school time getting myself and the house organized for what are likely to be stressful months ahead, updating my work clothes, and enjoying some rest and downtime. I’d do fun things with the kids after school.
Being alone in a cabin in winter with little kids doesn’t sound that fun to me, but if this is your dream, go for it. |
K and 1st grade are the years where you can pull kids from school without worrying about missing much. Go for it and enjoy! It'll be special.
Depends on the kid, but yeah, mine would be fine missing a few days.
100% for K & 1st grade. Assuming your kids are fine with changing up the routine unexpectedly.
No, keep them on schedule. This isn’t about YOU. They have school. They are building relationships with teachers and friends now. Lots and lots of people do not go away for spring break. Don’t worry.
+1 definitely do it |
Yes absolutely
I would assuming no major academic issues and they won’t miss anything special at school. Maybe miss two days and spend one planning a bunch of really special activities
Love it. Go for it.
