So depressing as we grind toward WW3.

I am saddened by this. Just think about how all the US can do is to request that Israel try and avoid civilian casualties in Rafah, and Israel can ignore the request because we still throw money at their feet

Right, it's such a remote possibility, considering we are already funding a proxy war vs Russia, pouring weapons into an inflamed Middle East and now want to mix things up with China.

The way to avoid WW3 would be to tell your Russian and Chinese and Iranian friends to stand down rather than complaining about countries defending themselves.

Yeah maybe if we let Russia take the Ukraine this will all stop.

Appeasement didn't work last time and it won't work this time. Countries have the right to defend themselves when attacked.

Isn't the whole point to avoid one by funding countries against aggression by dictatorship and terrorism?

Is that the whole point? Or is this to expand our power and control across the world and continue to mint money in the weapons and defense sector?

It is great that the Senate passed the bill and did the right thing.

But now it goes to the House, where MAGA Republicans who oppose Ukraine funding due to strong arming by Trump have so far managed to keep the measure from being taken up.

Although there is a majority in favor of the bill, House speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) last night preemptively rejected the measure, saying that it is nonstarter because it does not address border security.

We know who blocked the compromise bill on immigration reform that was drawn up largely by a conservative politician. So MAGA house members have a paper thin majority, are blocking both bipartisan immigration reform that addresses border security and national security.

Praying they come to their senses and that their constituents put pressure on them to do the will of the majority.

Not defending NATO starts WW3.
Not stopping bullies starts WW3.

Do you think it is acceptable for one country to invade another? For people in one country to just bomb an other? For terrorists to just run wild?

Better a proxy war than an actual one, though, isn't it?

It wouldn't be necessary if bad actors in Russia, Iran, North Korea along with Hamas etc stood down. They aren't, so do we just let them do what they want? Or do we and the rest of the world, stand up to them?

There remains a bipartisan majority in favor of aid to Ukraine, and the Senate passed the $95 billion funding package for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. In part, lRepublican senators wanted to demonstrate their independence from Trump, who had spent the weekend telling senators not to pass it. South Carolina jellyfish senator Lindsey Graham, previously an Ukraine supporter, released a statement saying he will vote no on the measure.

Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) weighed in on the issue during debate yesterday: “This is not a stalemate. This guy [Putin] is on life support… He will not survive if NATO gets stronger.” If the bill does not pass, Tillis said, “You will see the alliance that is supporting Ukraine crumble.” For his part, Tillis wanted no part of that future: “I am not going to be on that page in history.”

Bravo Senate Republicans who showed backbone and stood up to Trump in the interests of the country. I fear too many jellyfish Republicans in the House will float whatever Tornado Trump stirs their waters- whether or not is not in the national interests or representing the will of the people.
