Exhibition reckless driving in suburban Maryland

Anonymous
So last night the Takoma Park police needed backup from MoCo and PG PD to stop a “reckless driving meetup” at which people stopped traffic and a group of drivers did donuts and burnouts at a state highway intersection. There was a huge crowd that surrounded and tormented the police officers and some in the crowd were armed.

And based on the neighborhood threads discussing this, these “exhibition driving meetups” have happened all over suburban MD for years, with the donuts on the Beltway incident, donuts in downtown Silver Spring and another incident in Greenbelt. What’s incredible is that this is apparently not yet a criminal offense, although a state legislator is currently working on making it so. These guys for now just get a stack of traffic violations. For example the guy who did donuts on the Beltway got off with an $1800 fine.
This is pure speculation, but a theory around my circles is that these exhibition gangs could be monetizing their shenanigans on TikTok and just paying off the citations and still profiting. Maybe not the case but I’d believe it.

I saw a video of someone doing donuts in one of the DC tunnels. Crazy.

It’s crazy! So loud and so dangerous. Large crowd accompanying them too so it must be advertised somehow?

They need to execute these scum on site.

They are a menace that are endangering everyone around them. It happens more and more because they know there are never any consequences and police never do anything becuse they can't. This area would be so much better off of they just had SWAT teams take them out permanently.

Goddman. I'll say it again and again. The US has easily deteriorated into a 3rd world S hole.

That is just pure animalistic and ferral behavior in that video. They could nuke that entire intersection from orbit and average IQ of the county would probably increase by 10 points.

The death penalty is a little harsh, but they should be arrested. Sadly, no arrests were made:

It's insane:

Exhibition Reckless Driving
On February 10, 2024, at approximately 11:15 pm, Takoma Park Police responded to the intersection of New Hampshire Avenue and Ethan Allen Avenue in response to reports of a reckless driving meet-up. Upon arrival, officers were met with a chaotic scene. A large crowd had gathered, forming a circle around the intersection, while multiple vehicles engaged in dangerous maneuvers such as burnouts and donuts.
As officers approached, the crowd's focus shifted toward them, and they quickly surrounded the police vehicles. The situation escalated further as individuals began banging on the police vehicles, including the hood and bumpers, while taunting officers. In an attempt to disperse the crowd, officers activated their emergency equipment, but this only seemed to exacerbate the situation.
Adding to the tension, some members of the crowd were observed wearing ballistic plate carriers, and one individual revealed a handgun tucked into his waistband. The individual displaying the handgun dispersed into the large crowd. Concerned for public safety, Takoma Park Police requested assistance from Montgomery County Police and Prince George’s County Police.
With the arrival of additional law enforcement from neighboring jurisdictions, the crowd, along with the reckless drivers, began to disperse, many heading southbound on New Hampshire Avenue towards the District of Columbia. Lookouts were provided to the Metropolitan Police Department.
These reckless meet-ups violate several of Maryland’s transportation laws and are illegal. They are dangerous and jeopardize the safety and tranquility of our community. We are working with our allied partners in law enforcement to address this serious issue through education, enforcement, and changes to legislation.
From TPPD

It's a giant criminal ring doing whatever they want in plain site. They have people gathering at them wearing bullet proof vests and carrying weapons. The county and DMV is just being turned into a 3rd world cesspit where lawlessness and crime are allowed to take control without any consequences anymore. These meetups attract armed thugs. Meet them with even more firepower and steam roll them with the SWAT teams armed with full bullet proof gear, rifles, and armored cars. Crack skulls or shoot back if they really wanna test the police.

GPS darts. Attach them to the fleeing car, then follow it from a distance til it stops.

I don't know why more police aren't using these to deal with motorists who are unlikely to pull over / likely to run.

"Hey there, citizen journalist! It seems like you've got a nose for news and a flair for the dramatic. But let's face it, your passion for reckless driving meetups and traffic violations might just be a sign that you're a bit too invested in the thrill of the chase. Maybe it's time to put down the phone and enjoy the donuts in your own kitchen, instead of documenting the antics of those who dare to do it on the Beltway. Keep up the good work, and who knows, you might just become the next TikTok sensation with your own traffic violation adventures!"

Brilliant. I’m sure it’s illegal in DC.
