Prediabetic - Suggestions?

Anonymous
I just looked at some reason blood tests and they suggest I am prediabetic. I know better than to look at health stuff on a weekend, I don’t know why I did but now I am stuck with this info until I can hopefully speak to the doctor or PA on Monday.

What do I do? Do I have to immediately change my diet?

I would ask to have a CGM prescribed.

The recourses above helped a relative reverse prediabetes.

Or, work with Virta Health, they have outstanding results. https://www.virtahealth.com/

Good luck!

They advocate for keto diet?

Lose weight. That’s it. That will probably require changing your diet.

Also work on building lean muscle mass.

Drink water and get enough sleep.

My son is type one and there’s a podcast that i love and have found extremely helpful. It’s called the Juicebox podcast and has type 2 specific episodes. I’m not at all a podcast person, but it helped me get up to speed on management at a really accelerated pace.

Definitely work on eating healthier and losing weight. It doesn’t take a lot to see results- I’m doing it now. I only lost five pounds so far but I feel so much healthier and my vitals have improved. My doctor wants to do a blood test in two month to see how that looks.

In my case, I have a genetic metabolic disorder that was only diagnosed because of my recurrent pregnancy loss. If you are a woman with PCOS it's likely your issue too. I'm on metformin to treat the metabolic dysfunction caused by the disease. I was unable to lose a single pound with drastic diet and excercise changes in a 6 month period.

I was prediabetic and after following my doctor’s instructions for lifestyle changes my levels are much better!
-No more fruit and bread for breakfast, I have a savory low carb breakfast (lunch basically, eg eggs and spinach, salad)
-Move for 10-15 mins after a meal. I basically do laundry after lunch, or tidy up, or walk around my office. It’s actually become a habit and eliminates the after lunch slump.
These two changes have made me crave sugar much less so I have stopped eating sugar (cookies, ice cream, nutella) except an occasional small piece of dark chocolate a few times a week. I am amazed I managed to make these changes but it wasn’t that hard, I swear.

This is one reason the results surprised me. I am 5’ 7” and 125lbs. I also eat relatively healthy! I can cut out more carbs, though. And I eat a lot of fruit.

So annoyed at myself for looking at results on the weekend.

You will be fine! You’re already slim, so it might be genetics. I take metformin for prediabetes and have a strong genetic link. It’s helped bring my A1c down. I have to get on the exercise and diet though. I have a hard time following throw since I’ve never had a diet mentality.

Can you expand on this? I am recently diagnoised type 1 on insulin. My understanding is that Type 1 dose and aren't as strict as type 2. Am seeing a diabetes educator in a few weeks

If you thin I would bet money that will monitor you for LADA.
