One defense she may try to assert is entrapment. |

Thanks. That article had very little news, but it seems other news sources haven't reported any updates. |
One Virginia paper? |
| It wasn't the trial, just a status conference. One is plenty to get the news, no? If she pleads or if it goes to trial I'm sure it will be more widely picked up again. The next hearing is October 25th and she has new counsel, that is all that came out of a quick proceeding. |
Hoppe confessed to the Distribution of Pornographic Images charge. She made demonstrably false exculpatory statements claiming she was trying to protect the child, when she had brought erotic materials to sexualize the child, that were found in the trunk of her car. False exculpatory statements are as damning as a confession. The transportation charge only requires the government to prove that Hoppe conspired with the undercover agent to transport the child. It doesn't matter that the undercover agent was the one who was supposedly physically transporting the child. The Enticement charge has a similar threshold. Had Hoppe not arrived at the hotel, she probably wouldn't have been charged with the enticement or transportation offenses, since she could argue that she was just role playing on line and didn't believe a minor child was really involved. |
By and large, public defenders hold the defendants hand while they plead guilty. Hoppe will be viewed as a privileged, white Disney princess by the public defender and the court, hand her privilege is documented with ability to have the undressing in public charge in Chesterfield dismissed and the Chesterfield Commonwealth's Attorney, who will also be viewed as a privileged, white Disney princess, making excuses for dismissing the charge. Hoppe's mind is overrun with child pornography and the fantasy of the degradation and humiliation of young girls having sex with adult males. The prosecutor and the judge will have no compunction with convicting and sentencing Hoppe to a decade or more in prison. |
| My guess is that she will plead, no? Isn't that the most common outcome in such cases? |
Yes, 98% of federal cases result in a plea bargain. 1% go to trial and 1% are dismissed, but the prosecutor has to offer a plea agreement. Hoppe's demographics, a white privileged Disney Princess, will work against her similar to the January 6th prosecutions. Hoppe could plead guilty to the charges against her which would result in a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years in federal prison, so there is no option for the judge to give her a reduced sentence. Hoppe's new lawyer, assistant federal public defender, Ubong E. Akpan, has pristine demographics, a Nigerian female person of color, so maybe the government may offer to drop one of the the charges against Hoppe for a guilty plea to the remaining charges. |
Why would that matter? |
| Any new updates on this? Is there a trial date? |
I think the next hearing is Oct 25 |
Thanks! |
She and her family have been prominent supporters of democrat politicians in the Commonwealth. |
| Feds offered a plea deal in October; details unknown; trial continued to December to allow defendant consideration. |
That's explains mental issues. |
