Oh my. Alum here with a DC who applied. Interested to see if DC is in this category. Thanks for the heads up!

Just saw one in ours too. My son is going to be so excited.

Seems unfair to the ED kids, they should get this perk too.

you dont have your ED decision?

We got a postcard from William and Mary yesterday but I didn't even look closely at it because it appeared to be one of those solicitations to apply you get from every school.

Could the admissions/communications office be so stupid to have a mailing like that go out in the same time frame as cypher cards?

Don't worry. DD did not get a cypher either and was admitted RD in March.
It is a nice to get, but no indication of a potential rejection.

Good Luck, hang in there.

Are you talking about ED deferred kids? Who says they are excluded from cyphers for the RD round?

Of course, but a card a couple weeks ahead of time would have been really nice, not sure why they didn't do this for their most dedicated applicants.

I think that the only people that get them are those who had their applications looked at on the earlier end (so maybe the first 1/2 that were reviewed). Mine sent in her application during the deadline extension period so will most likely be one of the last reviewed.

I swear, some people will complain about anything! These admissions offices are incredibly busy, and they’d probably have to delay official ED notices if they also started sending postcards for that round as well. If your child was accepted ED, please just enjoy it and stop trying to spoil a happy moment for other students.

three things:

First, this isn't for all RD kids. It's for the top RD kids. 90% of admits won't get a cypher card.
Second, plenty of ED kids had different kind of cypher card - a commitment from a coach or a dean or a faculty member. There were plenty of ED kids who had "a card" a couple weeks ahead of time and I'm sure that was nice. That wasn't your kid, but it doesn't make it unfair to your kid.
Third, the turnaround time is very tight for ED and they don't have time to do a card a couple weeks early. Schools are literally making ED decisions in the days before they are released.

Wait- my kid applied ED1 and has not received a decision yet. But you're telling me W&M are letting some RD applicants that they have been admitted? WTF? How is that even remotely fair?

Exactly. The school makes it clear. If you get a card, you can probably expect good news soon. But the converse is not true. If you don’t get a card, it doesn’t mean anything. They don’t send them to all likely acceptances.
