you dont have your ED decision?

Of course, but a card a couple weeks ahead of time would have been really nice, not sure why they didn't do this for their most dedicated applicants.

three things:

First, this isn't for all RD kids. It's for the top RD kids. 90% of admits won't get a cypher card.
Second, plenty of ED kids had different kind of cypher card - a commitment from a coach or a dean or a faculty member. There were plenty of ED kids who had "a card" a couple weeks ahead of time and I'm sure that was nice. That wasn't your kid, but it doesn't make it unfair to your kid.
Third, the turnaround time is very tight for ED and they don't have time to do a card a couple weeks early. Schools are literally making ED decisions in the days before they are released.

Wait- my kid applied ED1 and has not received a decision yet. But you're telling me W&M are letting some RD applicants that they have been admitted? WTF? How is that even remotely fair?

W&M ED1 decisions already came out! They are now reviewing other applicants and sending cypher cards to the top applicants. Nothing “unfair” about it.

I don’t understand. ED 1 decisions went out on December 5. You haven’t gotten anything in your portal yet? They promised ED 1 decisions by mid-December. How have you not contacted the school yet if you didn’t hear anything?

Correct. Just checked again. No notice of anything. I didn't see that they were notifying in December. Guess I'll give them a call.

Ed1 is out. Ed2 is not yet out.

I swear, some people will complain about anything! These admissions offices are incredibly busy, and they’d probably have to delay official ED notices if they also started sending postcards for that round as well. If your child was accepted ED, please just enjoy it and stop trying to spoil a happy moment for other students.

NP. Yeah. ED is a tight turnaround as it is. There is no time for this on ED. Just be thankful!

Don't worry. DD did not get a cypher either and was admitted RD in March.
It is a nice to get, but no indication of a potential rejection.

Good Luck, hang in there.

Thanks! Their blog says 25% receive it.

Ok, can someone kindly tell me what a cypher card is? Thanks. DS applied to W&M regular decision.

The postcard is just so unnecessarily cutsie. Just tell me if I’m in or not. Especially if it doesn’t go to everyone. Also since decisions go out so late (late March).

OK, well then the question still remains. Why would RD people get answers before ED? Isn't the whole point of ED to be notified "Early"?
Anonymous
The big question: has anyone received one in the past and then NOT gotten in???

Part of the point of ED is to commit to the school before getting a decision. With ED2, those decisions will obviously not as early as ED1.

EDII decisions already came out a week ago. They are now sending cyphers after all ED applicants received their ED decision.

If you applied ED and do not see a decision in your portal, I recommend you contact the admissions office asap.
I would assume ED applicants deferred to the RD round get treated like any other RD applicant.

Not true. My DD applied at the last possible moment, and she received a cypher card.

???? anyone

Because my kid has that kind of luck. Lol

In the past, these came out in a trickle, correct? Not all on same day or two?
(Would be so nice to get one after deferrals but I understand that not everyone admitted will receive)
