| He was totally fine before I went to bed. He was perky and was asking for treats which he ate just fine. When I got up in the morning he was gone. Do cats have heart attacks? I just can't understand how he went from totally fine to gone within a few hours. |
| I’m so sorry, OP! You must be in shock right now. Did he eat anything poisonous? |
| I am so sorry. I can’t even begin to imagine how devastated you are. I don’t have any answers for you. I just wanted to extend my condolences. |
| I'm sorry for your loss. Sending you virtual hugs. |
I don't think so. I don't have any real plants in the house except for some succulents which he didn't eat. Like I said, he was being his normal self the night before. Affectionate and asking for food, didn't look in distress at all. That's why it's so shocking. |
|
Sorry OP.
Did he get into something? Eat something? Plants? |
|
I’m so sorry. Is it possible he choked on something overnight, or ate something poisonous? Otherwise I would guess he had some kind of underlying genetic condition that you wouldn’t have necessarily been able to detect with normal vet check-ups.
I’m wishing you peace. I lost my young, healthy dog last year due to sudden onset liver failure, and our vets were never able to determine the cause. |
|
No signs of trauma? Nothing broken in your house?
Maybe he had a cardiac issue you didn’t know about or epilepsy. I’m sorry. |
|
I didn't look in his throat (just too much after seeing him gone) so I suppose that he could have choked. He always got a clean bill of heath at the vet, but an undetected genetic condition is totally possible. I also have his brother from the same litter so I hope he doesn't have the same issue.
Thank you all for the kind words. My son who is special needs and an only child is absolutely devastated. That was his best buddy. |

I am so sorry for your loss.
They can have heart attacks. My parents' cat died at 7 yrs old. He was perfectly fine, eating food, then walked into the other room, let out a loud meow and was dead. The vet said it sounded like a hart attack. |
| My in laws cat passed away last year from (what they think) was a heart attack on the way to the vet for a routine check up. They think the stress of the car did it. No underlying medical conditions they were aware of and he was only 6. My heart goes out to you. |
| I am not sure what it could be (maybe bring to Vet for an autopsy if you are worried about the brother?) But I am so, so sorry for your loss. Thinking of you in this time. |
| How shocking and awful. I’m so sorry. Hugs to you, your son, and your remaining cat. |
| I think orange kitties are prone to heart attacks - so sorry for the tragic loss. It's so hard on the kids and helping them while you're grieving. |
| Sudden death in a young adult cat is cardiac disease until proven otherwise. So sorry for your loss. |
