How often do you do grocery delivery?

Anonymous
We are regular online shoppers, but for some reason grocery delivery is something I forget about all the time. Probably because we try to shop odd hours like weekday evenings when there are less people out. But today I treated myself to a $20 Instacart order. Somehow it feels so indulgent compared to ordering $20 on amazon or whatever.

Not since 2021.

About twice a week. I haven’t been inside a grocery store in years

Never. I cannot bring myself to pay the very inflated prices.

Never. We like to pick our own produce and it's not worth dealing with the mistakes and substitutions.

I can't bring myself to pay for it for some reason. But the thing that really stops me from doing it is that the few times I've done it they did all kinds of substitutions -- with stuff that really wasn't a substitute, and it would have just been better to go to the store myself.

Once a week. And where are you all shopping you can't turn off the substitutions?????
Anonymous
I do delivery when they offer an incentive. And I have the option to either turn off substitutions or request a specific substitute.

Never, not once. Not even during Covid. I enjoy grocery shopping, find it to be a very zen activity. I like seeing what's out there on the shelves.

Never.

Unless you are sick or infirm, there’s no reason to have groceries delivered.

Similarly: you should mow your own lawn and clean your own house.

Never. I am capable of doing my own shopping and refuse to pay for it as a service.

Are we one day going to pay someone to come to the restroom with us? *shudder*

We do it once or twice a week usually. It adds up! But there's all the impulse stuff we AREN'T buying at the store when we don't go in person, too.

This. If you can’t manage this, your home/property is an unreasonable size for your family.

Very occasionally. I actually did it really frequently pre-COVID (at least 1x/week) when I was going to the office every day and had little kids, but stopped during COVID because it was so hard to get delivery slots for a while there and then just kind of fell out of the habit. Now I work from home and tend to pop to the store for smaller shopping trips more frequently.

I do find myself using it when I'm going to be hosting (holidays, houseguests, parties) and need a lot of groceries - I'll order the pantry goods and long-lasting produce several days before so that I know I have what I need and then just make another trip to the store a day or so before for any last-minute items and fresh produce.

Also agree with others about the substitutions - it's not so much about the bad substitutions (which you can usually get a refund for, or turn off substitutions), but about the frustration of now missing an item that I needed.

Never. I’d rather pick my own groceries.
