If You Made Health Resolutions For 2024, How's It Going?

Anonymous
Folks who made health resolutions for 2024, how is it going so far?

Anyone still thinking of doing so? Plenty of time left.

Thread for accountability, support and inspiration.

I'll start. I really want to quit sugar this year. I've been tapering down, post holidays, so far so good. I have been trying to eat more protien and drink more water and so far I'm not having crazy cravings.

I'm also trying to walk at least 5 days out of 7. We're thinking of getting an active breed puppy, that would probably help. I'm not tracking distance or steps yet, just trying to get in the habit.

Anyone else?

Well, I started probably the 27th, so it's been a few more days than just 4, but I still think it is awfully early to be evaluating what I'm doing.

Aiming to eat less (and lose weight so I can comfortably fit into my pants).
Trying to exercise more sensibly (I've strained some muscles so I need to chill out)
Avoiding sugar and grains (but not being obsessive about it)
Doing Dry January as well, although I forgot about it on New Year's Day. But since then!

So far so good. But again, I feel like it is still early days.

Cut meat by 50%. Day 4 of no meat.

I feel you on the sugar. I used to do Whole30 every Jan. I stopped doing it but I think it really gave me a good base. I don't think I have a sugar problem, but then again don't most alcoholics say that?

Good luck.

Long recovered from an eating disorder, I fell back into some old bad habits and my longtime DH called me out on it - lovingly and with concern. So, my resolution is to eat well and nutritiously and not skip meals. I need to eat a greater variety of foods and not be so restrictive - I really got into a rut where I was eating the same few favorites daily and/or skipping lunch at work because I was “too busy.”

I’m making the effort to cook/shop/meal plan for myself instead of putting myself last.

Keeping fitness as a priority but less about being the same size and shape I was as a teenager and embracing an aging, healthy body.

Doubled my meat consumption and stopped eating sides full of carbs. Stopped drinking beer/wine and only drink whiskey. Getting some form of exercise at least 20 minutes per day. So far it's going great and much easier than I thought it would be

I want to get in 5 servings of fruits and vegetables per day minimum.

And I want to begin using the Peloton I've completely ignored since I bought it two years ago.

Doing well with the veggies. Going to get on the Peloton for 5 mins tonight. Baby steps. I'll be doing 5 mins for a week. Then 7. Then 10. Etc.

I cut out all added sugar, bread/pasta/carby snacks, and alcohol. Really trying to amp up protein, healthy fats and veggies. So far just losing my mind thinking about chips and desserts and all the things I was overeating during the holidays. Hoping things improve soon!

Well. I found a stash of sugared/spiced pecans in our kitchen cabinet. Until then it was going well. But at least they paired nicely with my coffee?

I started 3 weeks ago with one cheat day per week. So far I am down 6 pounds and getting 10k steps a day every day. It sucks but I need to lose 30 lbs so here we are.

Doing Dry January again. Day 4. Totally fine.

Controlling my portions better has been going ok but feeling hungry more than I expected.

I’m going to see if I can just avoid alcohol this year almost entirely. I just don’t process it well anymore in anything other than boringly small quantities and it totally wrecks my sleep anyways. I don’t even drink all that often anymore anyways, so it should be easy. The only odd thing is being social without drinking a beer or two, but I’ve navigated that before.

Planning to meditate daily, do one core workout daily, be intentional with stretching, get more time outdoors.

So far, so good.

I’m also not bringing new food into the house that doesn’t meet my nutritional goals (no sugar, no grains beyond rice) and trying to thoughtfully use up what’s in the house already.
