Comstock doubled down again on Casino in Reston

Idiot.

Virginia had their chance. Maryland beat them to the punch with MGM National Harbor while McAuliffe was more interested in riding his horse. It’s over. Maryland won, Barb.

Besides- WTH wants to go to freakin’ Reston as a destination? Dumb dumb dumb.

I don't want a Casino in Reston!!!!

Yikes, no. What rubs me the wrong way - there is a Casino in Colonial Beach that isn't allowed to run the full suite of slot machines or anything. Why TF does MGM and these huge corporations get to and small businesses that have been around forever get nothing?
Anonymous
That casino is technically in Maryland, as it is on pilings in the Potomac.

Yes it is but it isn't allowed to even have slot machines

People in western Fairfax don’t want it, yet it keeps moving forward. Why are these people so insistent?

Kickbacks and what they believe will be increased tax revenue. Need lots of tax money to build charging stations and rent subsidized apartment complexes.

That will make Reston so gross. Really why is she doing this? It will bring only bad things to beautiful Reston. The late beloved developer of that planned community will roll over in his grave if this happens. Comstack is a disgrace.

Fairfax County has a long history of rejecting any development that isn't centered around the military-industrial complex and federal government. Arlington discovered how painful and capricious the federal government can be regarding base realignments. Crystal city is a ghost town.

If it ends up being a large complex kind of like Maryland Live!, which is near Arundel Mills, it might not be that bad. That venue has performance spaces, and some pretty good acts come through there. I’ve even been to a recording of one of my favorite podcasts, which was fun. I’ve never been around there at night, but it seems like it’s just there’s shopping, a few restaurants, and a casino, and it’s just a busy area with things to do.

MGM National Harbor is actually really lovely. I go to Voltaggio for special occasions, and saw Cher at the performance space. But I don’t think Reston would get anything that “high end” because the surrounding area isn’t as destination-like as National Harbor.
