Need to replace existing gas (80k btu) and AC (2.5 ton 14 seer) system. Furnace, AC coil, and condensing unit for est 2000 sqft 3-story colonial. No changes to ductwork, etc - just remove the old boxes and pop in new ones. Anyone care to share what they recently paid and contractor used. TIA |
22K not in the area though. |
I just paid $16,500 for a new 16Seer oil furnace, heat pump (Trane), coil. Whole new system. I have oil heat so was limited on vendors.
Loudoun County. |
Also it was a 4 ton. Used Griffith. They are one of the few vendors who will work with oil heat. |
14K+ |
We did this. We got a dual fuel Daikin heat pump to replace our AC and gas furnace. It was 13K. You should watch some of the videos about it:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZQFSpcpXC4 Heat pumps are much more energy efficient and just as comfortable if not more so (less dry air.) |
$15k for 3 ton 20 SEER variable stage heat pump and evaporator coil (before federal tax credit) and a 70k BTU 80% efficient natural gas furnace. |
curious why you went with a very high efficiency heat pump and a low efficiency gas furnace? |
Don’t hate me but I looked up my 2020 installation of a carrier infinity furnace (2 stage gas with variable blower motor, 90k btu) and state select hot water heater and it was only 7k. Be sure to shop around. |
But that’s only 1/2 of what everyone else got. And it’s Carrier, which is a shitty brand these days. Also, prices have jumped since the pandemic. |
The furnace is a backup. We don't run it very much. Installing an efficient furnace would have been significantly more expensive because of the need to vent the gases outdoors. All that for a backup heating source. |
+1 I'm the PP that got a heat pump and furnace for $15k. In the quotes that we got 6 months ago, the furnace was much less expensive than the AC or heat pumps. We did get quotes for full HVAC replacement that ranged from around $8k-$27k. Lots of variation in cost depending on what models you chose and who installs them. |
We installed a new HVAC system in December 2019. My neighbor works for a HVAC company and said prices went up by 50% during the pandemic and haven’t really gone back. That said, make sure to get multiple quotes. |
How did you decide that the system needed to be replaced? We're getting ready for a bigger reno and trying to decide if we should update the systems while we're at it or just wait until they fail, and what the downsides are to waiting. |
Our AC stopped working, and it was 20 years old. I think it depends on how old your current system is. |
