My 12yo wants a $45 sippy cup

DD wants a 40oz Stanley Quencher cup but I refuse to pay $$$ for it. What’s the fascination/ big deal? Are they worth it? Target even had a new colors drop this week. Extra accessories to go along with cup adds $$$ up quickly. I will more than likely get it but… ugh

It’s no different than the overpriced Benetton or Esprit piece of clothing I wanted when I was 12. If you have the money, it’s harmless and actually useful. I love my Stanley. If you don’t, don’t buy the knock off. That’s what I would have gotten and it’s worse than not getting it.

LOL. I just love the title.
If you're already bending and you can afford it, then do it, per the rationale from immediate PP. We all wanted dumb things. But big consequences if they lose it!

I wanted one too, and got it. It helps me hit my water goals. Just buy it.

We all have our guilty pleasures OP.

Hope your son enjoys his new cup.

Just keep in mind how much he will LOVE it & how much joy it will bring him every time he uses it.

The price?

Priceless. 💞

I love your title. This is exactly what I bought my 12 yo niece for Christmas since she wanted it. Love the sippy cup.

Yes I’m amused at the status of sippy (drippy) cups but DD was so excited when I finally got her one so it was worth it to me.
I still find it crazy people can’t leave the house without a bottle in one hand and a phone in the other. When I was a kid if you got thirsty you looked around for a water fountain. The only people silly enough to buy a bottle of water were those 🙃 Europeans.

They are all the rage in my 11yr old’s 5th gr class. She may be the only or one of the only kids that doesn’t have one. She doesn’t ask for one and I think it’s kinda cool. She said the kids freak out of there is a scratch on their Stanley, etc.

Maybe tell your 12 yr old it’s even cooler to be different and not like the rest of the kids.

Plus the open straws are gross in a classroom

I got them for $25 on Black Friday.

If you are near a Nordstrom rack check there. Saw Stanley’s there the other day for a good discount . Don’t know if they had the exact style your kid wants though.

OP’s kid is 12. It will be all about the exact style and color for that age.

The open air straws were gross at school on Friday. The big oversized cups teetered on the desks as the classes kept coming and going. The kids forgot theirs as the next class filed in. It felt gross setting them on the floor next to the desks because the straw is up and if it tips on the floor it will get dirty. I’m surprised that the school doesn’t say that style is not allowed.

The handle doesn’t fit into the net compartment of the bookbag.

I do not know why straw toppers/ covers do not come with the cup.

As someone who just paid a similar price for a fanny pack (sorry, a "belt bag") for an 11 year old, I can relate.
