Harvard Finds More Instances of ‘Duplicative Language’ in President’s Work - Still keeps her job????

So this is plagiarism. Why is she permitted to keep her job? If a student did this, they would meet major sanctions or be expelled.

| Not good for Harvard's reputation. They've been having a rough couple of years. I hope they can recover. They rejected DS a few years ago, though, despite being legacy (mom) and top stats, so part of me doesn't care. |

It’s not good for the brand, but they are stuck for now. Students and prospective students probably don’t care enough to make a difference. Wealthy donors pulling their funds is a bigger problem that will eventually cause her to resign, but later and quietly after the storm passes. |

My college student dd said the same thing and said even her youngest professors have many more than that. At a good public university but nowhere near the prestige of Harvard. |

The impact of plagiarism is not measured by the personal feelings of the people plagiarized. Plagiarism exists independently of their feelings. |

This. The citations are sloppy and embarassing, especially because they hold students to a much higher standards. But it's mostly minor league stuff - paraphrasing cliches, not stealing ideas. OTOH her publications track record is a crazy red flag. She got tenure with almost no publications and has done very little since. Harvard, Stanford, etc are famous for sending incredibly accomplished young scholars packing at tenure time. To put someone with such meager scholarship in the role of Harvard president is just ridiculous. |
