| I've noticed there are a few underperforming Fenty holdovers - all of the Fenty "starts" have moved on to other things. And then she just has this mishmash of people who, quite frankly, just aren't that good. Her attorneys also aren't impressive and seem to be tripping over themselves handling "crisis" issues such as Falcchicio, crime and the selling off of our teams. The sexual harassment scandal, crime issues and the BIG deal regarding the teams really requires a high caliber legal mind who is media savvy and quick to put out fires. There are so many options in the District, why doesn't she have good lawyers at least? Maybe they could help her pick leadership in other areas as well. |
| At this point, they appear to be in bunker mode. Think Trump in his final two years. |
| She, they should just resign now then, for the good of our city. Would hasten the congressional takeover. |
| Congresss should pass a law that allows federal employees to run for local public office as long as there are no material conflicts, and allow them to take a leave of absence to serve in DC government as an elected or appointed official. Right now the pool of DC politicians is very hamstrung by federal ethics rules that prohibits federal employees from running for partisan offices or taking a leave to serve. |
| Diversity hires. Obviously. |
Fish rots from the head first. |
| DC had a very brief experience with competent technocratic government. We're returning to a more traditional crony system |
This. Except for Tony Williams, DC has ALWAYS been a crony system. Barry was terrible because his cronies were not only corrupt but incompetent. Fenty's cronies were corrupt but at least had the good sense to subcontract their contracts to actual competent contractors---they were just skimming their markup. Because DC is not a state, there is no upwards mobility for would be pols---you can't be an actual representative or senator. People with serious political chops and ambition leave the Hill and go to their home state and run for office. |
| The requirement that people live in DC (especially now that people are paying attention) also dramatically reduces the pool of people she has to choose from. |

Murial is plain not very smart.
She was an ANC commissioner who rode the "green team" to fill Fenty's council seat when he became mayor. After his criming was exposed, Vince Grey was elected. He was a great council chair and mayor. He got begrimed with lies about corruption to open the door for Murial and the return of the "green team" to office. She brought mostly Fenty holdovers with her and over time, they have turned out to go on to bigger and better things and the replacement have gotten worse and worse, and going back to the opening line, Murial isn't very bright and she has no vision. The last election didn't catalyze any new ideas or new people, just 'vote for me and get more of the same' except we aren't getting more of the same, we are getting the C team or the D team. It is time for new leadership, new vision, and most important, an understanding of what DC really needs and a vision for the future. |
| Why would you expect competence? The DC economy pre-covid was held up by the federal government and all the associated corporations and law firms that profit off the feds. DC officials never had to worry about making economic decisions or treating commuters well because the business taxes were always going to come in. But now DC keeps focusing on extremist progressive issues while entire federal agencies move out of DC or allow their building in DC to sit empty while private companies move to business friendly VA. You think someone could win a DC election without a laser focus on progressive virtue signaling? |
Agree with this. Bowser talks in platitudes but she is not the brightest bulb. The fact is that, while her insight and judgment have not grown during her time in office, that she's become more arrogant and dismissive of others' opinions in recent years. There is one area where Bowser has distinguished herself. Even by DC crony standards, Bowser's shameless pandering to developers is troubling. The crony deals, the way developers and their counsel write the agencies' agendas is troubling, but the worst are the shady "public-private partnership" deals with developers and the payment of super premium rents to questionable real estate landlords for her voucher program. That program has also spread "crime for all" to formerly safe DC neighborhoods. She has to go. |
| Seems plenty smart to me. Smart enough that all of you who have no better criticism than she’s not smart can’t seem to put up a decent alternative who is smart enough to win. She runs again, she wins again. |
She's more corrupt than smart. |
Bullsh*t. Many of her Deputy Mayors are white and they suck. She just does not hire good people and she's insecure. She doesn't want smart people around her. Was John Falchicchio a diversity hire? She trusted him with everything and we know how that turned out. |
