Seafood pasta for Christmas eve?

Anonymous
Anyone have a delicious seafood pasta recipe for Christmas eve? We want to have it be red sauce based. Thanks in advance!

The NyT Cooking Recipe of the Day is Mussels and Cod Bucatini with Spicy tomato sauce. It is how I make mussels almost exactly, except I use Whole San Marzano tomatoes instead of pure (I break them up a little by hand). It would work with a mix of different seafood and is delicious.

We do a version of jambalaya with penne instead of rice and with more stewed tomatoes.

Grossy Pelosi’s Christmas Eve Pasta! His recipes never fail me.

Where do you all get fresh mussels and clams on Christmas Eve?

I’d get mine at any of Pescadeli, River Falls Market or the Fishery. Black Salt used to have great seafood too but I haven’t been there in awhile.

I think even Whole Foods and Wegmans will have these items.

Question for you pp. I’m making a version of this as a side dish. Subbing ricotta gnocchi with browned butter— sage, hint of walnuts, and dried cranberries. Grossy offers 1X, double ingredients 2X, triple ingredients 3X in recipe. Any idea on serving size for 2X/3X? Can’t seem to find single serving size to calculate.

This is a guess, but I’d guess the original recipe serves 6-8 generously, based on the amount of seafood (it is “only” 1lb of pasta but there is a ton of seafood in it- you could always make some more pasta if concerned).

Just don’t add squid. That was our traditional Christmas Eve dinner growing up. Vile.

Wait are their actual Italians (not Sicilians) in the DMV area?

Sicilian here. You gotta problem with us?

OP, we always make sea scallops prepared in a scampi style. Last few years I've served it over linguine. We have shrimp cocktail and mini crab cakes as starters. I get all of the seafood at The Fishery in Chevy Chase or at Blacksalt.
