ECNL TN Showcase - AWFUL

Anonymous
Anyone feel the ECNL TN Showcase was a terrible experience? Rain, shortened games, communication. Did college coaches even get anything out of this? Did the players? Extremely disappointed and exhausted by the experience. Hope others had a better time, but my 07 feels let down.

It rained. What do you expect them to do?

A lot more than they did.

Full field tents. At a minimum

The college coaches for serious soccer programs I'm sure didn't budget for both the ECNL showcase in TN and the MLS Next Fest this week in Arizona.

I'll leave it up to the good folks here to guess which one the college programs made a priority.

Way to make this about your measuring stick. OP is talking about rain and gametimes.

Two different genders, not quite the same.

Have a backup plan, arrange with the local High schools, universities or collages for use of their facilities do it in advance of the tournament and not as a minute.

Serious soccer players aren’t worried about going to a kids tournament OR college coaches.

Can't do much about the weather, but from what I understand the college coaches didn't leave the main fields to go to rescheduled games at alternative sites. Sucks for the teams who didn't get equal time at the main site in front of the coaches like some teams did. Short games and bad parking doesn't make the travel time worth it for the college coaches.

You're talking boys vs girls? I don't think there was any conflict.

They had the forecast in advance plus the same thing happened last year. For the money they are making, I expect them to do a whole lot more than they did. Cover the grass fields ahead of games so that they are playable on game day for example. Arrange for all games to be played on turf; invest in turf if they want to keep hosting it. They had 12 months to figure this out. Having kids and coaches travel there from around the country, spending a lot of money on "mandatory" hotels from which the tournament makes more money, then shortening games to 50 min when the whole point of this showcase is for as many players to be seen by coaches as possible was not the answer and players should absolutely be expecting better. How about relocating this showcase? December in TN is not a good plan, unless the club hosting it wants to invest some money to make it worthwile.

What are you talking about? This isn't a tournament. It's a showcase for college coaches to recruit players. There were over 200 colleges represented and clubs from all over the country.
